Does anyone have a shared prong eternity band that you wear on a regular basis with your e-ring? I have heard that the prongs on the w-band can damage the prongs on the e-ring when they rub against each other. My e -ring is set in platinum, which I know scratched more easily than gold. Do you envision this is a problem?

hi, i figured i could chime in on this as i just had a fresh experience. when i recieved my platinum reset i wore it with a memoire 1ct full eternity shared prong band also in platinum (i.e. set very low, small diamonds - .04 pointers) and when i looked at the ring about 6 hours later i discovered not only were the prongs quite visibly scratched up but the entire profile of the shank was as well!!! and not just a little, a fair amount, IMO. from being on PS i knew some scratching would occur, but i didn''t think it would happen that quickly or be that much. because it occurred all around the ring, i decided against the shared prong with rounds.

as much as i don''t love channel set, i am now considering it, or a princess eternity with shared prongs (my ering is princess, and the princess shared prongs appear not to have any diamond girdles exposed, thus eliminating the scratching problem). i know some on PS have gone custom with shared prongs to design it such that there is more metal to metal contact rather than girdle to metal contact.

Ohhhhh, so it is actually the diamond scratching the metal?? Ha, took me a while to get there. I thought it was the metal-on-metal that caused the scratching. Hmmm, interesting. I also am not crazy about channel set diamonds, but I am also considering it. Thanks for the response!

no problem.... that is my understanding, that with shared prong bands with round diamonds, the girdles are typically exposed and they can rub against and scratch whatever is next to them. best of luck in your search!

ps. do a search on PS actually, for shared prong, or scratching, etc. and you''ll come up with some threads that might talk about this as well, people''s experience, and their solutions. you can always put a thin spacer band (1 or 2 mm plain platinum band) between your ering and the shared prong to prevent scratching the ering.

I had to get a channel set eternity band because of my engagement ring and I love it! I like the clean look of the channel and it looks great stacked with other rings! Don''t be afraid of the channel set! good luck finding something you love!

I have a shared prong eternity band with 6 point diamonds that I plan to wear next to my e-ring (in a basket setting). I wore the two rings together for one day and noticed some scratching on my e-ring.

I''d read about this happening on PS, but I don''t feel that the scratches interfere make the setting of my e-ring any weaker, especially since both are platinum, so it seems like more of a cosmetic preference. If it starts to get bad, I''ll wear a 1mm spacer.

You might have an issue with the diamonds in a shared prong band scratching your ering. Do you have a picture of your ering?

I have a custom shared-prong eternity band from WF. I had specifically asked them about the diamonds rubbing my e-ring. I was told that they make sure that the girdles don''t stick out far enough to rub. I am sure some shared prong rings would be a problem though. If you went custom, you could make sure the ring was made the way you want it. Here is a pic of mine.

You don''t have to ask me twice!

It is set in a 4 prong tiffany setting so I am pretty sure it will sit flush.
