I had originally posted this in answer to another thread (here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/time-for-a-cool-change-meet-my-princess.99490/page-2) but felt it might be wiser to make it its own thread.
I have some questions and I am a complete NEWBIE.
Question 1: I noticed some people upgrading center stones in a ring with different sizes/shapes/etc., but keeping the same setting. (For example, I've been tracking JustJulia's voyage and she started with a round, and has since had emerald cuts, a princess, a pear, & an oval) How is this possible? What I mean is, is their ring just the kind that has the center stone's setting separate from the rest of the ring so you can have any size or shape that you want? Or, is it possible to have other shapes put into ANY ring? I ask because I've just recently gotten engaged and decided on a 6x6mm pink sapphire for my center stone (to fit the setting), but I also LOVE the idea of an oval, or maybe even a round? The thing is, I fell in the love with the setting before I ever knew what kind of center stone I wanted, and after looking at a number of other settings, I just never found one that had (almost) EVERYTHING that I wanted like this one does. But I'm not really sure I WANTED it to HAVE TO BE a square 6x6mm. (I'm going to try to post a photo of it so you can see what it is/what it looks like)..so I had to go with what that ring could 'house.' (Is that the right terminolgy?)
Question 2: If I were to change my center stone, what is the typical cost to have it remounted? If I got it re-set at the place where I purchased the setting, but the center stone wasn't purchased through them, do you think that would drive the price higher? (The current center stone was not purchased through them. Fiance brought it to them when he was ready to purchase the ring and they set it).
Question 3: I am also on the look-out for a radiant cut pink sapphire. I have NEVER seen one. When I say that, I mean that even a reputable site like TheNaturalSapphireCompany only has radiants like what www.radiantcut.com 's website describes as: "a radiant simply means a princess with the corners cut off, which is how some generic "radiants" are deceptively presented." Is it possible to find a TRUE radiant cut sapphire? And, if so, how about in a PINK sapphire?
*sigh* I just feel so discouraged by all that I've seen and how much I've googled and looked and I even emailed radiantcut.com looking for information but haven't received a reply. I'm just not sure where to go from here, so that's why I'm turning to all of you experts.
If you can point me in the right direction, I would be so grateful.
Question 4: In light of question 3, I'm thinking of switching the pink sapphire to a pink moissonite because it has more scintillation than my sapphire...and although my sapphire is lovely (and has one of the best cuts I've ever personally seen in a princess cut), it's not exactly the COLOR I wanted, and obviously it doesn't have as much sparkle as a diamond would. Is a moissonite okay? Is it hard enough (like a sapphire) for every day wear? Is it 'junky' because it's not a 'main stream' stone? I've added a picture of one that I've been eyeing. It is exactly 6x6mm (which I couldn't believe when I saw that).
Sincerely,
Rachel
