Hello everyone :) I''ve been diligently reading many old posts here on PS to learn about diamonds and i feel pretty confident with my knowledge now! But now i''m trying to do some research on settings. I know my girlfriend has mentioned she would love small side diamonds. Now my question is in regards to these small diamonds... What EXACTLY is the definition of a pavé diamond? Just a very small diamond? Its looking like my center stone will be in the 1.5-1.8 carat range, and I want the side stones to compliment it, but i don''t want them to be so small as to look ''dinky''

I''ve seen many pictures of some of the beautiful pavé rings people have gotten over the years here... but for some reason a single row of ''small'' pave diamonds just doesn''t do it for me. Makes the ring seem too thin (just a personal preference!) i saw a beautiful ring with 3 rows, but that makes the ring to ''chubby'' for my tastes... so i''m thinking 2 rows of pave or one row of slightly larger diamonds... but i can''t find any pics of these types of rings

So I was wondering if anyone had a link to a site or could post a picture with something like this? (Have i confused you enough??)

I also have thought about custom designing the ring with someone like whiteflash, but I guess right now i''m just still looking for ideas!! Please help a lost ''ol soul in his journey to find the perfect setting!

drkewl,
Go to the show me the ring forum and look at the forum ering eye candy folder. You will get lots of great ideas there. Good luck and let us know if we can be of any more help.

...also the eternity band/wedding set thread........and check out some websites such as facets, whiteflash, stuller, ungwer, adwar, winfields/wink jones....on and on...lots of ideas out there...good luck!!!

How wide of a band do you think you want??????

Maxine, i''m still in the planning phase, but right now i''m thinking about 4-5mm. my GF thought a 7mm ring we saw was ''too chunky'' but a 2mm one was too ''brittle looking''.... so i figure that range is a safe middle ground :)

Pave is actually more of a setting style, the real small diamonds you are referring to are actually called melee diamonds. So the pave you see is actually melee diamonds which are "pave-set", which puts these small diamonds so close together that it looks like a ton of sparkle and really catches the eye.

All the recommendations given above are excellent. It''s good that you are doing your research here on PS, you will surely learn alot and feel very confident when it becomes time for you to buy!

There are also some nice ones that are wider around the back, and then get smaller as they approach the stone...w/diamonds sometimes...they look nice!! What size, shape stone???

here''s one of many (this one by vatche)....more width...not a lot of diamonds (not considered pae)....

Size, 1.5-1.8 carat RB center stone... I don't think any of the new 'variation' cuts are for me. Oh yea, and I'd really love to have a 'six-prong' setting if possible

i found this pic on the Tiffany website. The far right ring looks pretty and is a good start. The middle ring, while not the correct stones, would it look good with small round brilliant cut diamonds (2 row channel set)??

hope this pic posts because i have never done this before

Very nice.......go to one of the websites that will allow you to "Design your own ring"...do a google search....several I know of are blue nile, union diamond, mondera...but there are others....that let you virtually create your own ring...just to give you ideas!!!!

here''s a picture of a wider band with channel set diamonds from Whiteflash.
