In your opinion, what is the perfect size melee for the shank and halo for a 1.4 RB? I like a thinner band. Right now, the setting (Zora by Eternity Diamonds) I like has .004 (.9mm) on the shank (20 stones in total -- 10 on each side) and .006 (1.1mm) for the halo (20 stones total). I would like for the ring to be slightly blingier so I'm wondering if increasing the size on the shank would benefit the setting? I think I'm fine with the size of the halo as I like the dainty look.

Also, I'm extremely confused about prongs. I keep reading about shared prongs and bead (?) settings, but I don't know which one would look good with melee of that size.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

I hope you get a response -- I have very similar questions in my mind and have not seen a lot of really enlightening answers. As they say on the FARK forums, "This thread is useless w/out pics..." :cheeky:

Would would help me to become educated is if someone could SHOW ME pictures of the various different types of prongs and explain the pros and cons that go with each.

I've also read conversations about the melee diamonds themselves -- single cut vs. some other thing and I have no idea what the real difference is or what type is recommended for what kind of setting, etc.

Here's hoping a PS expert or two will weigh in and shows us the light soon!

I think you could go as big as .02 on the shank and still keep the dainty look, 2mm or so. As far a melee on the halo, I prefer .005-.01. It sounds like it's going to be a beautiful ring. Cant wait to see it!

did you order the sample setting to try on? that might help you visualize the proportions (although I think that the temp settings they send out are of lesser quality than the actual settings).

as far as the style of pave is there a picture of pave that you particularly like? maybe show that to Eternity and see if they can do it (if you want to change the style of pave on the ring?)

I did order the replica ring and it was really pretty. I actually posted the picture on the boards because I was concerned how it looked like there were spaces between the diamonds on the halo. Someone responded and said that they purchased an actual halo setting from them and there were no gaps/spaces and it likely looked like that because it was just a replica.

The thing about posting pics of pave that I like is they all look generally the same to me! I prefer 'less is more' look in terms of metal. When I look at my ring, I just want to see all sparkles and very little metal.

I talked to Yoni and he sounds very accommodating so as the time to purchase gets closer, I will be sure to communicate with him what I want.

I think I definitely want larger diamonds on the shank though. The .004 is very tiny. We'll see how it all pans out. I've been doing a lot of reading on here and it seems that the .006 they currently use for the halo is pretty standard. The side stones are .10 and I might make thing slightly bigger at .15 or .20 if there would be a noticeable difference. I just want to make sure they look good with a larger center stone. The replica comes with a .90 center stone.

Honestly, the replica was really pretty as-is, but I'm fairly certain I won't be upgrading so I'm trying to go as big as I can the first time around. :naughty:

Attached is a pic of the replica ring on my finger (size 5.25, but the sample comes in a 6.5)

It's very pretty!!! I agree with you though, I would want .015 or .02 melee in the shank. Originally I had .01's in mine and under direct lighting it looked like a beautiful ring of tiny diamonds, but then other times I felt like I could only see metal, so I upgraded to the .02's and it was perfect for me. Still very dainty but obviously a ring of diamonds. I'm trying to decide on a pair of wedders now and am hesitant to go below .02's although I've seen some bands on here with .015's that are gorgeous, so Im still on the fence.

Your ring is going to be gorgeous though, congrats!

ETA I just remembered...your center is going to be 1.4, so I think I would considered bigger melee on the halo, closer to .01 maybe? Yummy finger coverage! :lickout:
