Question about James Allen appraisal

My ering came with an appraisal from JA...can I ask what the point of this is? Don''t I have to get an "independent" appraisal for insurance purposes?

The appraisal you received was complimentary, it''s one of the services James Allen provides. Of course we at James Allen and the others on Pricescope would encourage you to have your diamond and ring appraised independently as well, if you''d like.

My diamond came with an appraisal from the jewelry store where I bought it as well, and Allstate (our insurance) accepts that as an appraisal. My ring is appraised for about $10,000 than my husband paid for it (definitely not worth the appraisal value) but I think the insurance company likes it that way because it makes our premium higher.
