I have a diamond I had appraised (not a certificated diamond but nice for the price and it looks okay on the right hand).
There is somethiing puzzling me, which I should have asked at the time but has only popped into my mind now.
There is a v-shaped bit out of the girdle which is tiny. The diamond came back appraised higher than I thought it should. When I called the jeweller they wrote back saying they had contact their appraiser and he was aware of this but because it is external it does not affect the clarity grade.
When looking at the diamond top down with loupe I can see this v part take out but there is no inclusion to be seen, it is in a way like a cleft in a heart shape (but much smaller) and only affects the outline shape of the diamond.
I always thought this was an indented natural but I read they can affect clarity grade. I know this v shape would affect cut grade but it is not certified or being certified so I am not worried about that as it would not receive a top cut grade from proportions anyway.
My question is:
I know you cannot see it, but could this be an indented natural then? I know it could be a nick or chip also. It does not look like a chip because it is so much in a v shape though. Basically it is if you imagine a pie chart with a v taken out, although it is only at the edge of the diamond and not noticeable to the naked eye.
