I was hoping some people on this board may help me with my diamond purchase and how to select an ideal cut diamond.

My first question is, unless you have an AGS certificate, how do you know the angles? GIA certificates don''t give them. Is there a way to calculate them from the table/depth and measurements? I know you can still have a bad cut with ideal table/depth %.

Currently i''m looking at the following diamond from Abazias (using the diamond search here)
Carat: 1.75
Color: F
Clarity: VS1
Measurements: 7.85x7.88x4.75
Table: 57%
Depth: 60.4%
Girdle: T-M (I think that''s thin to medium)??
Polish: Ex
Sym: VG
Cutlet: None
Fluor: None
Price: 15818

The table/depth measurements are in the ideal range I think. But then is there a way I can figure out the crown and pav angles without asking so that I can make sure they are close to ideal? I want to get something with a good cut in the E/F, VVS2/VS1 range. I was initially looking at under 15K for something like 1.5-1.6 from bluenile.com, but prices are cheaper here. I''ll take less caret for a better cut, but not looking for perfection. And then this 1.75 came along which is a tad bit above my target, but it is 1 and 3/4 caret and I think it''s still an ideal cut.

Any advise or help would be appreciated. Thanks,

jeff

No, there is no way to divine the other measurements from the table and depth. That is like knowing only a woman's height and weight. She could be "big boned," fit and muscular, big on top and small on the bottom, small on top and big on the bottom, etc. You will have to contact the seller to find out this information. The process to measure the angles is called a sarin analysis -- ask for one of those.

Well, you could ask Abazias to contact the dealer and request the Sarin info, but my experiences with that haven't been hugely successful. I usually heard "they (dealers) don't have access to a Sarin".

Another option would be to purchase it with a good return policy and take it to an independent appraiser. It's a bit more work for you, but it may pay off in finding a great stone.

Or, refocus your efforts on vendors who have stones with that information already available.

HAHA LOL LMAO phoenixgirl.... I loved your comment! FUNNY! I think it's time for a poll with the following choices: Big on top and small on the bottom, small on top and big on the bottom, big on top and big on the bottom, small on top and small on the bottom, hahahah
