Question about HCA

Hey all,

I understand that HCA is an elimination tool. I saw that seems to be the general rule that HCA greater than 2 is the category to be eliminated whereas HCA less than 2 should be further evaluated. I apologize if this is a stupid question. Where does HCA = 2 fall? Is this in the category for further evaluation or for elimination? I have tried to look this up but did not find a clear answer.

Thanks!

If it scored a two, I would say it would probably be worth further evaluation based on the numbers.

Are you talking about a specific diamond or just in general?

Thanks!

The diamond I am looking at has a table of 58%, depth of 61.2%, crown angle of 34.5, and pavillion angle of 41.

You really need to further evaluate and get the ASET or IS image.
When the score is 2.0, you are normally dealing with pavilion angle equal to or greater than 40.9.

So this means that there is a good chance of the cut having leakage? Thank you for your help, I will look into that.

If every crown was exactly 34.5 and every pavilion 41 then you'd be fine, but those values are an average of 8 crowns and 8 pavilion facets. The crowns can range from anything and average to 34.5 and ditto for the pavilion. Angle variation can lead to leakage. No one can answer you accurately based on the information provided so far.

At the bare minimum, a good photo face up, but ideally an IS/ASET is needed.

I have seen a few spectacular 34.5/41s, while many were unimpressive,
Nearly all JA True Hearts with 41 PA have CA of 34.0 or lower.
I think 34.5/41 is one of those combos that need to be perfectly executed
