Is there anywhere that we could go to go take an old European cut diamond and recut it to a modern brilliant? Also, how much of the diamond weight would be lost? Thanks.

This is a touchy subject here. We have several old cut lovers. Yes, it can be recut, but why would you want to? An older stone is rarer and unique. How much weight is lost and the cost would depend on the stone. You''d need to speak with a cutter to get an estimate.

When I brought my loose OEC to my goldsmith for him to set into the ring setting, he was really happy to see such a nice OEC because he told me that a lot of OEC have been re-cut into a modern brilliant in my city....

Emotie Frankie says he''ll be visiting if OEC is recut to modern round.

I''ll echo the others. I''d hate to see this happen if the OEC is a decent stone.

Oh dear! Please rethink this as OECs are getting popular. There's a greater demand for them today as evidenced by more websites popping up advertising old cut diamonds.

To answer your question, weight loss will depend on too many factors to consider: your original shape and dimensions, any inclusions, etc. Only a cutter with the stone in hand is able to give you an estimate.

I don''t have any answers to your questions but I do love the OEC!
