Hi,
I''m new to this site so if I''m int the wrong place I hope someone will tell me. I am looking for advice on having my diamond reset. I stopped wearing my engagement ring several months ago as the band has worn so thin I''m afraid it might break. With all the hype on tv in the past I am leary about leaving my diamond anywhere for fear I won''t get the same one back. I''ve been doing some reasearch on how to protect myself and found some tips like getting a full and accurate descrption on the work order. I am also interested in having the diamond mapped. If anyone has any advice on this matter I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

Most appraisers offer this as a part of their ordinary service. You will then have a map to use to help you to recognize your stone. Some can also provide you with photomicrographs of distinctive inclusions or features of your stone that can be helpful in recognizing it later.

It’s also worth noting that theft by a jeweler would be a covered loss under most insurance policies. The risk if this is far lower than most people believe but, to the extent that there is a risk exposure, this can be passed to your insurance carrier for a relatively low fee.
