I''m not sure if I''m asking this right or if it''s even able to be answered because of so many variables, but I am wondering something about cut. I know all the numbers for an ideal cut diamond, but with my limited budget (no more than $1200 for diamond), I need a cut that is not quite that wonderful.
I know that depth %, table %, crown and pavilion angles are what really matter. But any ideas for what ranges I should be looking for in order to find a diamond that is still pretty well cut, but maybe not so fantastic that I''d have to spend over my budget. I am hoping to find something H-I color, SI1-SI2 clarity, .6-.7 carats.

Also, I''m not sure how to explain this, but say the ranges I am looking for are depth between 59-63 (I''m just guessing here, hoping you''ll tell me if that''s right or if I can extend the range) and table 53-58....will what one is affect the other? Like say I find a stone with 63% depth, should I think look for table of 57% rather than 53%, even though they are both within my range?

Does that make any sense???

I hope someone has some clue what I''m talking about and can give me some help. Thank you very much.

You can make trade offs as long as the top (crown) angles compliment (pavillion) the bottom. Typically the deeper the diamond is cut, or the thicker the girdle, the smaller it appears. That's because you pay for weight that you don't see in visual appearance. You can also get into light leakage and refraction issues as well. The diamond won't sparkle as much as it should.

Try looking for a table on the upper end, 57%, 58%, 59% and depth a smidge lower than ideals, around 60%. A great performing 60/60 could also be a good possibility. Watch for VG or EX symmetry as a guide. Polish has less impact on performance.

Here are some non Ideal possibles. You would need further info to make an informed decision.
