This may seem like a stupid question, but I'm starting to question looking for a cushion around the 1.20ct size and perhaps look for something closer to 1ct instead. The reason being is that the selection is WAY more plentiful here. There is tons of stuff around 1.01 and very little around 1.20. I noticed that the spread between a good cushion closer to 1ct is quite similar to the spread on average for a cushion around 1.20. I'd like to know your opinion on where you guys think this 20 point difference really that significant on average (although I know it depends on a case by case basis)?

A diamond that is 1.0 or 1.01 (or close) may have been cut to maintain weight and not to optimize performance. There's a big price increase at 1 ct. so there's incentive to keep as much diamond weight as possible when it's that close to the size break.

If you're going to go down to 1 ct., see if you can find something that's .9 to .99. It will look almost as big as a 1 ct. but will cost less.

I'm getting so frustrated with this whole process. I don't know what the heck is going on.

it really depends on how ye cushion is cut- you would have to compare the dimensions of the stone.

it can be hard to find a good cushion since you can't shop by the numbers and there are a lot of poorly cut stones out there. I would call a few vendors and tell them what you are looking for-see what they can come up with.

I'm calling a whole bunch but I'm seeing a lot of junk. I was close to buying something online but I think I'm just going to do things locally. I really don't know anymore...

You can't buy a cushion locally in my opinion. About 99% of cushions are cut like crap. You really need a place that specializes in cushions, and there are only a few and they are online.

yep.

I'd contact GOG or ERD

Don't get frustrated. Please keep in mind most of the pricescopers here have been looking for cushions for YEARS (me included). And I got a dud at first too! If this is really not of interest to you in the long term and not fun, I would echo what the ladies above posted and enlist an expert. GOG or ERD. They'll make the process fun - it'll be like having your own diamond concierge. :)

ya, i guess so. i was trying to go through ERD and found something interesting (see this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-do-you-guys-think-about-this-cushion-pics-aset-gia.173792/), which to me looked very good, but everyone else said it's a no go.

i've been in contact with ERD & GOG. mark sent me a couple, and i thought the one in the link above was the best (and he thought so too). the ones at GOG didn't excite me, and is it me, or do the ASET images of the 3 GOG links above look a little funny?

Actually the stone in the second of the GOG links that slg posted really spoke to me. I love the facet pattern of that one. It spoke to me more than the ERD one that you posted about before. Of course, you are the one making the choice, and you need to be the one that is wowed, but to my eye that one looks great!!

@onedrop: a little too square for me, but still nice.

@ecf8503: i saw that one, it's really nice, just too expensive for me.

I'll just echo what others have said - you'll have to be patient and persistent during your search! Well cut cushions in the proportions, carat weight, facet pattern, and price that you want are not easy to come by. Hopefully between GOG and ERD, and maybe even some of the other vendors you can find something that fits you!

yes i guess you're right.

You may want to provide ERD and GOG a larger carat size spread, as long as you are willing to go for a smaller diamond. You get a lot more spread with a cushion than with a round.

I know we recommend over and over GOG, but James Allen seems to have the largest selection of cushions. Also, I looked at Blue Nile yesterday and they have a lot, but you have to use the "expert" link and have someone from BN evaluate the diamonds for you (by calling the diamonds in). Tell them you don't want crushed ice, but a modified brilliant with faceting, but not too chunky. At least, I think that is what you're looking for :)

Whiteflash can also source stones for you. I saw a beautiful H&A cushion on their website in their photo gallery section. Just ask Victoria to help you via the online chat.

I know it can be frustrating and it probably seems like a full time job looking for a stone, but you'll end up with something beautiful I'm sure.

good help. i think i'm just going to trust ERD & GOG for the moment. i've been dealing with them and i like them so far.

Just be patient and maybe ask for stones closer to 1 carat...
