Hi Psers ,

I have been saving for a RB 3 stone ring this past year .if I contact BGD about a stone in their virtual inventory to evaluate ,will they charge me anything for the evaluation ?

also if I ask them to find me a diamond with particular specifications ( like K/L with strong Fluorescence ) that is not available in their inventory ,will they help or should I just contact IDJ for that and then have the stone set by BGD in the 3 stone setting ? ( I plan to get their signature diamonds as side stones ) .

Thanks for any help .

I do not know what BG charges to bring in stones or whether he adds shipping on to the final cost. But what I have figured out is that a lot of stones are in NYC, and when a vendor can just pick up a stone from a supplier rather than using shipping, the stone may come out costing less at the end. I would personally use a NY vendor for virtual stones (as I recently did using GOG), and use BG and other vendors outside of NY for their in-house stones.

I would feel like it is not worth it, though, to get signature H&A stones for side stones when not getting an equal stone for the center.

Are you considering a BGD setting? If not, I agree with diamondseeker2006's approach.

If you want a BGD setting and are not in any particular hurry, I think a better approach would be to ask Brian to keep an eye out for a K/L color Blue for you.

DS & Thbmok,

Thanks for your replies .I was thinking an excellent cut GIA diamond would match the side BG signature stones ? ( my plan is for 0.40 ct each sides ,for center 0.90 ct but if I go BG signature then it has to be around 0.70 ct ) .

It could match, but I just meant that you may as well save money on side stones, too, if you weren't getting a H&A stone for the center. I agree that looking for stones with fluorescence would be nice in a K or L stone!

DS

actually I read much praise for BG signature diamonds on PS ,that is why I want to try them even in a small size for the side stones of the ring .
as for the center stone ,I want to get the biggest diamond in my budget .

As the OP has stated, repeatedly, a clear preference for their vendor it is against forum policy for us to talk them out of that vendor and into another one based on our personal preferences. He did not ask us for our opinion regarding the vendor.

The question we were asked was: will BGD charge a fee for evaluation?

The answer is: Please call BGD and ask for Lesley and speak to her. Each vendor is different about their policies regarding the stones they call in.

BGD has excellent customer service and if you just talk to Lesley and explain that you want the largest excellent cut center you can find for your ring I'm sure she will be able to find you something beautiful. And since they are constantly stocking their lines, they may even be able to find you a Blue Line stone. :wavey:

Supplemental questions:
A GIA Ex stone will most likely be just fine with BGD signature sidestones. With a 90 point center I personally would reconsider 40 point sidestones and would stick to 25-30 points max . You can ask BGD to take a picture of a 90 point stone with both 40 point and 25 point sidestones so you can see the proportionality for yourself though, and that's probably the best thing to do.

Hi Gypsy ,
I am a "she" by the way ! Thanks for your great advice .the reason I am not asking BG these questions is that I am waiting for summer to begin my 3 stone ring project .and I am exploring my possibilities .I would love to try BG this time .I have already tried Bluenile ,WF ,IDJ and I love all the pieces that I bought from them .
