Yay! I''m glad you got it- I do think it looks like a gorgeous stone, and hey, if it isn''t they do have that great return policy. The shape is indeed absolutely beautiful, it was the first thing I noticed... if you like square over round, I betcha it''ll be perfect.

JewelsbyEricaGrace do sell separate settings, and I know they''re planning on carrying recasts of old settings they''ve run across; not sure if they already have them or not. They''re very responsive; I called them once about a setting and Erica called me back within minutes. Nice ladies and lovely merchandise.... I still wish I''d had the cash on-hand for the setting they had, it was the only vintage setting I''ve seen for sale that would have fit my 3.55 OEC and it was GORGEOUS! Sigh.

SingleStone also makes smashingly gorgeous mountings. Unfortunately they''d probably cost about what your stone did.

Oooh oooh! Or Van Craeynest! That would be amazing. Or Beverly K, they''re a little less pricey than some other options. Whatever you choose that stone is gonna be beautiful. I bet you fall in love when you see it. You better post pics, whatever you do!

Thanks all. I just got in, so a quick note and then I'll follow up later. For starters, thank you all so incredibly much for your help, ideas.

Hopefully, I'll like it when it comes. My budget for a setting? Oh, right now about $15.

Actually, a setting I love is this:

It's from Topazery, however they do not sell it without a stone. Do you think it would look good in that? I looked into (awhile ago) having a similar custom made and was given a price of about $2,000.

Hi Sonoma,

Based on the stone''s rustic appearance, I would say that it was likely cut in the mid to late 1800''s. The diamond appears promising and has such a beautiful shape to it - cant wait to hear what you think of it, and of course, pictures!

I would agree with AJ (hi AJ *waves*!) that a shape like this would lend itself beautifully to a bezel type setting or a cushion halo with gemstones (blue sapps would would make for a striking contrast),
all depending upon budget, of course.

How will you sleep till Friday ?

Hi again,
that is really pretty - but you could so much better for 2k imho..
If you love that design, I say get a second quote..

Thanks all.

Yes, I agree, $2,000 seemed a bit high for that deco setting. I love that setting but . . .

While I love Coati's setting for her stone, I don't see anything at James Meyer's that I'd want for this one. I think. I do love the James Meyers; they have a rustic element that I've not seen anywhere else. I don't know about a bezel for it, as it may darken it. Also, I want to show off the lovely high crown more.

Maybe something like Kroshka's setting, but with a bit less metal in profile:

Erica sounds like a great idea for a setting. I'll e-mail her on this once I get the stone and decide it is staying.

Thanks all. Please cross fingers for me in hopes that it's a keeper.

Fingers and toes crossed !
Oh, and just fyi JM does mainly custom work - I believe those rings on his site are ready-made-to-go..
