Question about an AIG Certification...Please help w/ my first diamond!!!

I have an AIG certification for a diamond I am looking at but it does not list the crown and pavilion angles. I''ve seen Norman in LA chime in on some threads here...If you see this, can you tell me these angles from the certification number? Thanks!!!

I''m new at this, so if I list the rest of the info, can you guys help me decide if this is a worthy diamond? I want to make sure I get the best possible diamond for my soon to be fiance!!!

I would suggest looking for some alternatives. This diamond is cut on the deep side, and along with the very thick part of the girdle, it looks to be facing up small for it's weight, and possibly not as large as a .95 ct round should. You can certainly post the crown and pavilion angles if you like, but unless you have seen this stone and love it, I would suggest looking for some more stones, and use these numbers as a guide.

depth - 60 - 62.6% maximum ( as a suggested cut off so you don't limit stones slightly over 62%)
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 deg
pavilion angle - 40.6 - 41 deg

* with crown and pav angles on the shallower ends ( cr 34/ pav 40.6) and steeper ( cr 35/ pav 41) it may be good to check these proportions are complimentary with an Idealscope image, and or skilled vendor advice, to make sure they work in harmony for this particular stone.

girdle - thin to slightly thick, medium, avoid extremes such as very thick etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above.

Also it can be easier to find a lovely stone by searching among AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grade.

Also, can anyone help me understand the topic of facets? I understand what a facet is, but my girlfriend seems to like the echo diamonds because they have 98 facets as opposed to non-echo diamonds having 50ish facets. I know I don''t know what I am talking about when it comes to this, so can anyone chime in and explain to me if a "name brand" diamond, like an echo, or hearts on fire, or whatever brand name is really better than a non "branded" diamond?

Yes, I think that would be ok for you to post a link to the stone. I don't know much about the extra faceted branded cuts which seem to be around, but I do know that HoF are a branded hearts and arrows cut, I think some think they are well cut stones. PS vendor Whiteflash also do a branded cut called A Cut Above hearts and arrows, if a branded cut is what you want. Basically cut quality is due to the proportions of a diamond being able to work in great harmony to reflect the maximum amount of light to the viewer's eye, rather than extra facets being able to do this alone, to the best of my knowledge. If you had a diamond with extra facets which wasn't the best cut, compared to a traditionally faceted cut which was beautifully crafted, the traditionally cut diamond would look the best. I don't know anything about the Echo diamond to help you, but I can say with confidence that a traditionally cut diamond with excellent cut quality will always delight and look superb! So it very much depends, you have to take the branded stone and non branded on each individual case.

All of this online research brings up a question. My girlfriend has her heart set on a particular Ritani setting that is for three stones. Usually, the center stone in this setting is .75 ct., but we both would rather the center stone is a 1 ct. The setting can accommodate a 1 ct. stone, but to do this, it may require a special order which I am told would take 6-8 weeks. Anyhow, long story short, would I be better off just going to a brick and mortar jeweler and paying the extra grand for the peace of mind to know that they will handle all the shuffling to get the stone I want into the setting I want?

In this case with your selections, I would definitely choose the WF ACA. If you do want to buy it, then check it is eyeclean. I don't know if WF have access to Ritani, but it could be worth asking them and discussing your options with them. As I said before, I wouldn't bother with that particular Echo cut, it is deep and may look smaller for it's weight, plus we don't know the all important crown and pavilion angles.
