Quest- Recommending platinum setting?

Hi again everyone.
So I finally have narrowed all my searches down, and the best combination of quality, service and price seems to be Quest.
Which is only 2 mi from my house. (after I have driven to 3 other states to look at settings) haha
I just spent two hours there going over a stone and setting.

I purchased a .67 asscher H color VS2 it will be placed in a bezel setting similar to Tiffany''s Legacy
With an asscher shaped pave surround and the accent stones at the 12 o''clock positions removed from
the band (so the wedding bands can sit flush)
The side stones will come also come further down to the 4 and 8 o''clock positions for a little more band cover.

So I''m loving the designs Cad''s will come by tues, my only concern is that Pete really seemed to push the platinum for the setting.
He said it won''t look the same because the bezel will have to be thicker with white gold. Plus the mill grain will tend to wear off easier.

I originally had wanted white gold after doing tons of research. But sided with Pete as he obviously seems to know what he is doing.

What do you think?
Should I stick with the Platinum?

Hopefully you will get some good advice from experts, but I too am having a setting done by Quest, and he said the same to me. But then at Charleston Alexander they told me the opposite, that it would be easier to make my design in WG. (Although she was still recommending platinum in any case.) I did go with platinum, but I too would be curious to hear more commentary on this issue.

On a different note, I met with Quest a few months ago and really like them. If it wasn''t that I want a particular type of setting, I would have gone with them. Their customer service was remarkable.

Quest will hopefully be finishing a ring I designed, next week. I asked for a WG shank, with a Platinum head. No arguments on that, but maybe it''s because my setting is so simple?

Wow, Ellen, I didn't know you had a project in the works. I look forward to seeing it!

It could be the setting design. I wanted mine to be as delicate as possible (and mine being a more complicated one, I guess), and he said that he could make it more delicate etc. in platinum. How have you liked working with Quest?

Yes, it''s my Aqua.

Working with them has been ok. As I''m sure with many custom projects, there have been ups and downs.

my *guess* would be that if they have to do any of the setting by hand, platinum, depending on the mix, is easier to work with. many highe-end designers won''t even work with whitegold. that said, i always think of Quest as more a build to print jeweler and if you really what WG, they should make it for you. personally, i can see though how they could make a plat. ring more delicate.

At the end of the day, you should listen to the jeweler who is making your ring. If they say they can make it more delicate in platinum, and you want it delicate, go with platinum. If white gold is really important to you, as well as delicacy, find a jeweler who can confidently make more delicate white gold pieces.

The different alloys have different material properties, as well as each jeweler will have slightly different skills and experience. While Quest has a reputation here as being more of a build-to-order jeweler than a designer, they still must have professional opinions about the suitability of each alloy for certain designs. If they say that they can make the same ring in white gold but it woln''t be as delicate, I would take them at their word.

I know I can''t believe after all my searches that my ring "quest" Has led me to a place so close and its named QUEST!

I''m not at all doubting quest''s abilities, they''re work is as good or better than most I have seen and as for customer service,
Pete spent over two hours this morning showing me behind the scenes and even demonstrating they''re laser cutting machine for me.
They really do seem to care about they''re work.

Even while I was waiting for the paperwork a customer came over to me and said "Don''t worry your in good hands.
We have been coming here for years and LOVE Quest!"

And as far as price they are doing the setting for the same price OR lower as everyone else has quoted for white gold.
I just want to make sure its the RIGHT decision and am also on a limited budget. I just wanted to make sure they are not "pushing"

I was anxiously awaiting mrssalvo reply. As I have poured over this forum for the last few weeks she has had knowledgeable opinions on every ones questions.
That said The delicate milgrain bezel is what I was looking for and I guess platinum is the way to get it.

I just hope the GF isn''t mad at me for going with platinum. After asking all her family (cousin just got engaged last week)
They all have white gold and said they wouldn''t use anything else. Especially since its so much more $$

I agree. That is why I went ahead with plat. because it was important to me to be delicate. I''m sure he would have done it in WG if I insisted. But with him saying it would turn out better in plat., and me being so nervous!, I did what cara said and "listen[ed] to the jeweler who is making [my] ring."

I think comments like that are ridiculous. Personally, I think platinum, white gold, yellow gold, (and dare I say it, silver - for inexpensive jewelry) will never be in or out of style. Sure, some will be more and less popular at a given time, and w/ platinum prices going thru the roof, people might revert to gold, who knows? - but they are all timeless.

that sounds like a comment from a jeweler who doesn''t know how to work with platinum. very silly and totally untrue in my opinion. yes, the platinum guild has done a great job of marketing platinum as the best metal but as I said before, high-end designers like Mark Morrell, Leon Mege, Michael b, daniel k, tiffany etc. etc. all work in platinum and none of them to my knowlege will work in whitegold. Gold yes, but not whitegold.

i also want to say that WG is the right choice from many people and it has many positives as well, i''m just responding to that jewelers comment.

Fair enough. Platinum is the way to go as long as you can afford it.
And after all I''m only buying ONE E-Ring.

I was looking at Tiffany''s rings and it said that if done in gold that the prongs are still Platinum.
So that to me shows its the better metal.
