Please some dust and prayers for my state. We are experiencing the worst floods throughout the state in living history. An area the size of France and Germany is affected .
Yesterday 8 people were killed and over 70 people are missing after a flash flood swamped a large town about 60 km from our area. Many houses were destroyed. An hour ago they advised all people in the capital Brisbane to evacuate. It is really of biblical proportions and thousands and thousands of people across the state have been affected.

Kate it is sad isn't it just beyond words the brissie river was getting quite high today as well

I hope you and your family stay dry and safe and are not in a danger area - keep safe

It's terrible, watching the news at the moment, they're expecting flooding to be worst on Thursday. Dusts and prayers for those affected. :((

Take care, ladies. I hope you're all safe and dry at home with pets accounted for and supplies all stocked. We're hopeful we won't be evacuated but we're down-river so it might take a little longer to flood down here...

ETA: I know PrincessNatalie is also a Brissie PSer. Any others out there?

good luck and keep us posted.

MoZo

I am watching the news and it is just so devastating and surreal. How does a place that was suffering through drought not that long ago now be underwater? Mother Nature is playing a terribly cruel joke.

Stay safe Queenslanders, I will be thinking and praying for you all.

Another Brisbanite here :wavey:

My well wishes to everyone affected by the floods so far and to those who are yet to be affected. The chances of my area flooding are low however i find the worst part sitting, watching the news updates and waiting for the next wave of destruction to hit. It's truely terrible waiting for something of this magnitude to occur and I hope all the people who are lost are found safe and well.

Ditto - just saw pictures of Milton - it has just been evacuated - scary images some people have lost everything so sad :(

Apparently the shops are running low on stocks as people are panic buying - even in low risk areas

It's beyond devastating, Mother Nature is at her worst right now. And with bushfires in W.A, it's just all so sad. My thoughts go out to anyone in or near affected areas, I'm thinking of you all and your loved ones and desperately hope the worst is over.

Praying for everyone's safety!

The floods make me feel sad and helpless because they are beyond anyones control. The fires just make me really MAD! I live about half an hour away from this last fire and I just can't understand why anyone would want to deliberately light them! I understand that they are obviously mentally sick but after the destruction caused by the Victorian fires why on earth would anyone want to try and cause that again? :nono:

Anyone seen the Facebook post going around about the Australian government donating $1 billion to the Indonesian Tsunami, $65 million to Pakistan floods but only $1 million to the Queensland floods. I don't know how true it is but it makes you wonder.

What's happening with the weather here lately? Its either floods or bushfires.

My home town of Grafton is bracing for floods and my Aunt, Uncle and cousins are bracing themselves in Brisbane, meanwhile over here in WA I'm fanatically watching the news about the bushfires cos I have to drive through that area tomorrow morning.

Dust and prayers for the people in the flood areas.

PS. If they find the person that started the bushfires, I hope they charge him with attempted murder cos thats what he's done. 7 ignition points!!!! WTF - thats no accident.

Haven't seen that (off to investigate), but if its real... :angryfire:  :angryfire:

I'm sorry Kate. It looks awful over there. I have friends in Brisbane. Luckily they live on high ground and are ok so far, but one did have to be evacuated from her office yesterday. I hope things don't get any worse.

I'm driving through there tomorrow as well! I hope they catch the person/s who did this. They have a pretty good lead on a car which is more than they usually have. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the same person who lit the golden bay fire in November that obviously didn't cause enough damage for them. :angryfire:

Yep, wouldnt surprise me either. Either that or a firey. The big fire here in the Perth hills 4 years ago that got to less than 100m from my house was found to be started by a firey  I know they say that these people have a mental illness (and I know they must have cos no rational human being would deliberately put others in danger like this), but still I'd like to see them charged with attempted murderuerr
At least with the floods they are force majeure.

(Edited for spelling)

this is so upsetting. I hope that things will get better in Queensland very soon.

My heart goes out to everyone affected!!

Sending all my good thoughts. The pictures look horrifying. I'm still waiting to hear from a friend in Brisbane, although we did get confirmation that our family is fine.

I hope all of you remain safe.

This is really awful.
My heart also goes out to all the innocent victims of mother nature.
Stay safe and move to higher ground.

Here is an amazing 6-minute video of a rising river.
It reminds us of how quickly and surprisingly water can destroy.
Heed those evacuation warnings!!!!

I saw it on the news and I just wanted to say that everyone that's affected is in my prayers. I pray that the losses are few and pray for all the rescue crews and those who are helping.

Dust and prayers for everyone in the flooded area! Stay safe down there.

Oh my goodness :(sad

I'm praying for all those affected. Australian PSers especially, you and your families are in my thoughts.

I am keeping all the Australian people affected by this disaster in my prayers. Please take care, everyone.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We woke up to a blindingly sunny day today so spirits are a little higher and preparations are underway. Please keep all our emergency service workers in your thoughts; they are very selflessly risking their personal safety for the benefit of others.

We also keep the fire victims of Perth in our thoughts and hope that the police catch up with the arsonist. Of course, we have not forgotten our flood-struck friends in the north of the state. Best wishes to all!

My thoughts are with all who could be or have been affected by the floods.

TGal -- I'm glad to hear that TGuy's family is safe!

This is terrible; I am keeping everyone in my prayers and that it stops raining soon!

I have never seen anything like this.
My son lives in Brisbane two streets from the river in a high rise. They shit power off at midnight last night but gave them no warning so he couldn't charge his phone. He got out this morning a few mintes before the main road out got flooded.
He's home now but pretty gutted.
His work underwater and no idea when he can return to home and work.
He said it was just surreal.
I pray for everyone else.
It's Australia's Katrina

I'm so sorry to hear this. That video is frightening!! I hope you all stay safe and the rain and flooding recedes quickly.

Sorry for the typo :?
Now it won't let me edit it.
This is mind boggling.
The much of the CBD could be underwater by 4am tomorrow morning.
Over 75% of Queensland is flooded.
Thankfully my area is one spared for the moment.
