Hi everyone,

I read about all the horrible experience people have had with their white gold rings, mainly poor rhodium plating and the ring turning yellowish in a very short time.
I understand that rhodium plating wears off but a WG ring of good quality should last for at least a year or two, right?

I''m thinking about ordering a white gold setting from James Allen for the diamond that I picked out there as well.
Has anyone had experience with JA''s white gold settings?
How''s the plating work? Or how''s the general quality?

Thank you very much! I''m nervous about this whole process. So many things can go wrong....

Hi wisteria,

I wouldn''t call Rhodium wearing off as a "horrible" experience. lol It''s normal.

How fast it wears off has a lot to do with the chemistry between the wearers skin and the ring. Some people have no problems for years, others it varies from a few months to maybe once every year or two. So we can''t really say. But it''s not a big deal to get it plated again, any jeweler can do it, and prices range around 25-40 dollars.

I agree with Ellen, it really is normal. My sister wears an 18K white gold set from a high end jeweler, and I wear a 14K white gold set from Stuller. My sister has had to have hers replated a few times since owning them and I have yet to need it done. It just depends on the person.

I believe the yellowing depends on the person''s chemistry and it depends on the metal mixture of the ring. The more nickel in the ring, I think the less chance of the yellowing.
