Hi,

For those with more knowledge than I, can you please compare and contrast these three stones?

The 1.150 fits nicely within my budget, but I am concerned that it may seem yellow if placed in a ring with many smaller, whiter diamonds surrounding it. Like in this ring, for example: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/michelle-18k-white-gold-5563w18

The other 2 diamonds are at the very top of my budget. However, if these are superior and it is worth saving a bit more, I would consider them.

I am also open to any other suggestions on similar cut stones elsewhere.

Thank you,
WD

I like the J, its a bit bigger than the others as you would imagine and you get a lot more stone for the money, I wouldn't pay and extra 2k for 2 color grades higher.

Whilst a J will look *slighly* warmer to a trained eye next to a D/E diamond, most people would not notice the difference between a I and J. I don't think many people would notice the difference between the G/F melee and the J centre stone. Not when the centre stone is so well cut and super sparkly like the quadex's.

This is the closet thing to the quadex the "Princess of hearts" but I prefer the BGD quadex you picked above, bigger for the same money!

There is also the "Jubliee" diamond but per carat its super expensive and again, not as nice as the quadex you picked

Are you color sensitive? I am- do that to me is a bigger priority. A princess cut will show a tad more color.

It really depends on the look you are going for.

Thank you all for the help! Admittedly, I like the value/ct of the J stone. I think I need to go to a brick and mortar store and compare the different color grades side by side to see the difference and my color sensitivity. Should I be concerned about the lighting in the store affecting each stones performance as compared to an everyday setting? Or if I ask to see a J and an F, whether or not they actually are showing a J and an F?

A more general question I have is whether a diamond like that J would look "more colorless" in a more "open" setting such as http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/grace-3-stone-pears-platinum-5557p , as compared to in a more "covered" setting like the halo. I understand that the color itself is an intrinsic property of the stone and won't change, but I wonder if being surrounded by the melee will change the amount of light that enters/exits and thus change the way the stone appears.

Best,
WD

If you hit the stores, I think a J by GIA will most likely look better than a J graded by EGL (am I right, others?). And the quality of cut can impact it how it looks too - so I'd recommend going to the nicest jewelry store around if you can (not a mall jewelry store). Good luck!

yes!!! A J by EGL grading is lower in color according to GIA. For example- a J EGL stone = K-L GIA stone. Cut quality will also impact how much tiny you will see- the better the cut and performance of the stone the less color you will see.
