Hi everyone,
I had a question on clarity of diamonds. I was a diamond ring at Jared and it was nice but I looked at the specs and it was an i2/i3.
Is that a very bad clarity? I have my opinion but I wanted to get some of your opinions on it.
Also is Jared known to have decent diamonds? Thanks
Do a search for Jared's here.
Many people are very unhappy with Jared's.
Also be aware that color and clarity grades issued by labs like EGL can be several grades more 'generous' than grades from GIA and AGS.
Initially this makes EGL stones seem much cheaper than GIA stones.
But in reality if a stone got grades of J I2 from GIA the same stone might get grades of G SI1 from EGL.
This makes price comparisons meaningless, and you honestly have no idea what they grades really are if the grading report is from EGL.
Stick to diamonds graded by AGS or GIA.
They are not more expensive; you are just not being lied to.
I1 and I2 are very low clarity and usually NOT eye clean.
That means you will either see the inclusions or it will be cloudy.
thanks, maybe I can shop around and see about either finding something similar or getting it made by another store.
Is getting a piece made a lot more costly then buying it ready made?

This entirely depends on what you want made. At least when you are having it made you have control over the quality of materials used and you can avoid I1-I2 clarity diamonds which are usually not something you want for fine jewelry.
Yes, I2/I3 are bad clarity grades. I think I3 may be the lowest clarity grade, and they look pretty bad.
Jared's, like most places, will have bad and good stones. I am sure they can call in stones that are nice, but probably carry lower quality stones, because that is what the average person is ok with. The B/M where I got my stone, had ALL kinds of crummy included, badly cut stones on display, but I told them I wanted an AGS Ideal cut stone and they found my current stone for me. Be proactive and assertive if you are using B/M's to get your ring, be educated, and don't settle. Good luck on your search.
