After trudging home from Woodstock in 68, caked in mud and hippie gear- the 70''s turned into hanging out at Max''s Kansas City, glitter rock, they called it then, - platform heels, I had a pair with gold fish in them - and the home town NY band - New York Dolls. They used to play at Max''s and a lot and other downtown haunts- there was a huge following that grew- the clothes were anything from London, high heels, lots of makeup... very glitter and glam. No leisure suits in this crowd.

Emma Samms
You're a decade out DF (must be your age). Emma Samms was a prodigy of the 80's. She rose to fame in Dystentry. An no where near as iconic a British export as her co-star. The indomitable Joan Collins.

And surely Joan is more in your age group isn't she DF?

Very good looking ... mature... and DEFINITELY NOT ELDERLY.

And so it is for me, btw.

As for the 70's, I loved the energy and the music.

Spewing my Metamucil spiked drink while reaching over for my cane..............

Only a few things I miss from the 70''s, those comfy wedge buffalo sandals (that are now coming back in style)
my boho Mexican wedding shirts
size 3 jeans
my thick hair
some of the music
high school friends and fun

Me too! My ultimate role model!

After a length and bitter divorce from Peter Holm, Joan was asked by a member of the press,

"Joan, do you think you will get married again?"

To which she famously replied,

"Dahling, I don''t need a husband. I need a wife!"

She''s a very wise woman is our Joanie

No, I don''t.
I was in high school and college during those years. So I was young, which is always fun, just in itself of course. But the 70''s were a very stressful time. Not as bad as the late 1960''s, which were so violent and scary in the US, but still there were all the financial difficulties (the terribly runaway inflation) and the scary breakdown of all the rules and the glorification of rebellion just for rebellion''s sake. I felt very insecure a lot of the time, honestly. As in, not very safe. It was a time of intense conformism, too, and everyone who had any issues with what was supposed to be the ''right'' way to think (very, very radical) was continually attacked for being more traditional.

Also on a less elevated level, I just hated the clothes! I had been a child in the 60''s when the clothes were very elegant and had always looked forward to growing up and being a woman of thirty who looked right in those beautiful, well-made suits and lovely dresses co-ordinated with hats, gloves, the sleek shoes and the gorgeous, gorgeous jewelry that we now call ''retro''. Instead, there I was stuck in a generation who felt it was some sort of sin to wear anything other than blue jeans, no bras, no makeup, with long strands of beads and stringy long hair! Everyone looked so awful and was proud of it! They don''t show how bad it really looked in all the retrospectives in which they show only beautiful hippie girls, the few who still looked okay when completely slovenly. the colors were gross and the polyester was awful. By the end of the decade, women were wearing the dowdiest suits EVER (draggy shapeless long skirts and long boxy jackets) or else neon disco clothes in total bad taste.

I preferred the 80''s when things settled down a bit, and also when, thank God, the Berlin Wall fell and it was the end of communism and we no longer had to worry about the Soviet Union and nuclear war. But did not yet have to worry about Islamic terrorism. and the country became more prosperous. In 1979, when I graduated from college, you could not get a job. By 1985, there were jobs everywhere and the economy was booming. Your savings stayed worth something and if you made wise financial decisions you were certain to be living better than your parents (unlike our children now who are certain to live worse than we do).

also, though 80''s clothes were kind of big in the shoulders and overdone, women did look like women again.

but I''m not nostalgic for any past decade, really. I feel you have to live in the present. Presently, though I think the country is in the toilet, I am happy with my husband, family and friends and satisfied as I go into my older years with my personal life. I like the wisdom gained with years and feel like I am in the best shape of my life personally with good diet and exercise, plus the confidence now to wear what I want (which tends to be elegant, including nice jewelry, because that''s my choice, no matter what anyone else says).

Have no ex-boyfriends, thank goodness. But if I did, I would think being nostalgic about them would be an insult to my husband, after all there must be a reason why they are EX.

Tried on a dress in a store over the weekend that looks just like a nightgown I used to wear in the mid-70s. I can only hope that nightgown looked better on me that that dress did!

I know it was the 70s, but she was supposed to look sexy here . . .

Speaking of Exes: my very own blast from the past, a FI from 1979 called the other day and sent me an email picture. Let''s just say the years have been kinder to me.
