Hey all, I have been reading these forums with my bf for the last month and your posts are all so helpful. we went diamond shopping and since I work 5 blocks away from the diamond district in NYC, I went everyday last week to check out stones that jewelers showed me. I made appointments with 5 jewelers and saw over 20 stones. we were originally looking for 3 carat, H, SI2 with price range of $40k. After seeing several H, SI2, we were not impressed with most of them, b/c of either lack of sparkle, black crystal or there was something I didn’t like about it.

anyway, one jeweler showed us a 3 carat F SI2, and I realized that it was the perfect stone b/c it sparkled so much and perfectly eyeclean. I am attaching the GIA certificate here. my bf and I LOVE the stone but it’s above our price range, it is $47k. I wanted to ask for your opinion on this stone, knowing that I saw it in person and it is completely eyeclean and does sparkle brightly. Do you think that I am overpaying? We thought it was a really good SI2 since we could not see anything..even under the loup, but the price tag is so high so I want to make sure it is worth it.

The same jeweler also showed us a 2.7ct F SI2 with price tag of $29k. the size is very similar but the 2.7ct is much more like an SI2, I attached the GIA certificate as well. i think obviously the 3.08 has much less inclusions BUT it is also a ton more expensive. assuming that my bf can afford the 3.08 very comfortably...

Question for you guys is: Which stone would you buy?

1) 3.08 F, SI2, $47k, eyeclean, certificate here:

2) 2.7ct F, SI2 $28k, eyeclean, certificate here:

Just want to ask for your opinion, which do you think is the better deal here and what is your thought on these stones?

Thank you all so much for your feedback!

I can't see the certificate of the second but are all the ones you've been shown the entire time GIA-graded with excellent cut grades? Because if not, you really can't compare. A round brilliant diamond with an excellent cut grade will be sparklier than one without.
