Hi all,

I havent posted on here for a long time but my wife and I are expecting for first child and she is 7 months pregnant. I want to do something very nice for her and get her a push present. I have a couple of ideas and wanted some feedback or even suggestions if there are other pieces of jewelry you all recommend for this type of occasion.

Options:

1) My wife has the Memoire eternity wedding band and engagement ring. I was thinking I would get her a 7-stone Memoire purity collection ring and have an engraving on the backside signifying the occasion. I figured she can wear them all together and they will interlock and look nice.

2) A monogram necklace with the initials of our baby. I want this to be nice but haven't find any jewelers that carry nice ones with some stone work in 18kt white or rose gold. Do you guys have any ideas?

I did search some forums and read about the Tacori circle of life necklace (below). What is your feedback on this piece? Any other nice jewelers make pieces on the occasion of birth that are meaningful like this?

Thanks!!

i'm partial to the rings - but you could always look for a nice stacker with blue or pink stones depending on what you're having!

What is your budget?

I think if she already has memoir rings I would do something else. And while the initals are nice it is too cutesy for me, personally.

A few ideas:
Cartier trinity ring to symbolize the 3 of you
Tiffany charm (my DH got me one for each child that are meaningful. For example we did a pumpkin for our daughter born in Oct and I like it much better then the initals)
DBTY necklace or bracelet- you can customize to include the baby's birthstone in place of one of the diamonds if you want.
IDJ Stacking band to add to her wedding set. Once again could do it with the baby's birthstone.

Third vote for alternating bezel with pink or blue sapphires and diamonds.

Sorry totally didn't see Niel suggested the alternating stacker. I would put that in the same category as the IDJ band. :appl:

Mili-Lani- I love the charms. I either put them on a necklace or wear them on my charm bracelet. I love how they have deep significance to me but doesn't scream they are about my children. Plus I love the flexiblity it gives me to wear them different ways.

My wife is due in early October! The budget is sub $2000 since we have other more important purchases to make now! ;-)

I like the stacking ring that you guys suggested and it seems within budget. Does this come only in Eternity or is there an option with a small band as well? I wanted to engrave it to make it more personalized and signify the occasion if possible. Can you guys tell me more about it - the designer, quality, where I could get one?

We're having a boy so that would be cool to alternate the stones with sapphire. Who do I work with to design this?

I'm currently working with Pearlman's and they have been great in helping me. I was leaning more towards the Memoire 7-stone ring as I felt it would match perfectly with her existing rings and it could also be engraved.

Those rings are from Brian gavin. They would certainly leave a space for you to engrave his name. Plus with sapphires and a 3/4 eternity would make it cheaper than a full one with all diamonds.

I love the alternating sapphires and diamond ring. Pearlmans can probably suggest one or you could
work with Brian Gavin Diamonds.

Isn't September's birthstone sapphire too? That's nice because if it works out that'll work for the gender AND month, but if some reason she doesn't have the baby in September, it still works.

I really like the idea of a stacking ring... so if there are future siblings, they could be added to a 'baby stack', so to speak! (how cool is that, eh?) And knowing its a boy, due in september (sapphire) - that's a perfect design!!

You could contact them with an enquiry and anyone would be wonderful to work with! I've spoken w Lesley and Denise and a brief contact with Jamie, and everyone of them were wonderful, informative, positive and upbeat!

Good luck and hope the next 2 months go smoothly!

This would be my choice, as I partial to rings. You could engrave your child's name inside, do it in white or rose gold, and maybe even have the little ones be the babies birth stone. I think July is ruby. So even yellow gold would look nice.

She could wear it with her wedding and engagement ring. ::)

I'm really starting to consider this ring. I like the idea of having a "stacked" series of rings for each baby. i can keep the memoire rings separate and build those stacks later with anniversaries etc.

i see that it says 1950 for the price - do they provide any sort of discount or shouldnt it be cheaper if i use sapphire as the smaller stones? I'll check with Pearlmans to see if they carry this jeweler. sounds like they are popular as quite a few have suggested it.

I like this idea!!! :)

We're actually expecting early October but who knows he could arrive early! Regardless I like the diamond sapphire combination. Do you know if their prices are as listed on the site or if they have some room to negotiate?

How much am I looking at right now for this option list price - i see its 1950.. my wife is a size 5.. shouldnt that play into the price after and since i'm doing a sapphire combo wouldnt that lower the price a bit too?

thanks all! =)

Oops you've probably already made your decision, but I love the ring idea, to fit in with the existing wedding set!
It is easy to wear every day, and it a perfect complement to the wedding jewellery, in my view!
It will never be put away in the jewellery box! Perfect gift for the life-changing event of giving birth to a first child.

couple things, i know they offer a pricescope discount as well as one paying by wire for engagement rings, so i dont know if they will for rings like that, but absolutely ask!

secondly, I do think it will be cheaper if you put sapphires in it. For example, they have this ring..
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/sapphire-and-diamond-bezel-18k-white-gold-5434w18

its 830 with sapphires, its 1060 with all diamonds.

If
you think its too expensive, you of course could get the one i posted above, though i do think the one you are currently considering is more substantial

October has two birthstones (opal and tourmaline), but you could still use the sapphires for a baby boy. :)) And, yes, the sapphire combo will lower the price.

So I havent fully decided one way or the other yet. I'm still 50/50 to the Memoire 7-stone eternity ring to compliment the existing memoire rings my wife has for her e-ring and wedding band. but i do like the idea of the "baby" stack with the alternating bezel eternity ring 3/4.

I called up Brian Gavin and apparently only their "signature" diamonds get discounts for PSers or wire transfers. To do the smaller stones in sapphire it will only be $100 difference so $1840 for the ring.

The price between both these options are very similar.

Can you all please give me additional feedback on any other push present ideas that you my have or other pieces of jewelry/designers that are popular? With regard to this particular designer - how is the quality ? I just feel a bit hesitant on spending that much on a piece that I cant even see in person. Is this even a good jeweler/designer?

Thanks guys!

btw - does anyone have any actual handshots of the alternating Brian Gavin eternity ring - I'd like to see how it looks in proportion and if anyone as actual bought it can provide feedback that would be great. i searched online but didnt find anything.

In a word, yes.

I've never seen a BG piece that was not AMAZING. I would not feel hesitant at all ordering from him. =)

Hey you know what would be cool? having a hidden diamond or sapphire on the inside of the band with some engraving since you're are considering not going eternity.

To answer some of your questions:
1. I used BGD but you can also use WF or any other vendor. They are both around the same price.
2. You definitely don't have to go all eternity. I used 0.05s and 0.01s but you can also play with the sizing. I think the pic on their site is 0.02s and 0.04s? Not sure.
3. In the engraving you can make the sapphire part of the engraving. Like "baby XXX born October 2013) where the "O" or the "zero" is replaced by sapphires??? My 10 year anniversary band has a hidden diamond on the inside and we made the zero in "10 years" the diamond.

good luck!
