Purchasing one of these BGD stones tonight. Which one?

I am on a pretty tight budget. Can someone tell me if they think the I/VS2 is worth the extra 580$ over the J/SI1?

So it depends entirely on whether you prefer an I VS2 w/ med blue fluor or a J SI1 w/ very strong blue fluor.

If it's for an Ering and you're buying for your SO I'd pick the I - it's not all that much more, and I w/ med fluor is a "safer" combo - most people will see the tint in a 1ct J if they look closely, esp. if the stone is set in white metal, and if the stone takes on a blueish tint in sunlight due to the vsbf some may not like that.

If it was for *me* I'd pick the J, I like fluor

For an e-ring, I'd pick the I, unless the incremental money is really a challenge. For earrings, I'd vote for the J, but seems to be that it's worth a few hundred dollars for the peace of mind.

Yes, it is for an E-ring that will be set in white gold. I do not mind flourescense at all. The price difference in the diamonds is a week's pay for me right now (first job out of college). The price difference is my only hang up, but I can afford either one.

I am really having trouble with this. Any more votes before I purchase?

I would talk to BGD and have them talk you through the two stones. They can do a comparison and tell you what they
see. For an engagement ring I would lean towards the "I" but since we have Fluor involved...things could be different.

Talk to BGD and see what they have to say about the different colors.

Have you seen the color video? It will show you a relative difference. I dont think
these stones have any fluor though and that should be a plus for you.

Tough call. it really comes down to what you are comfortable spending. Personally I would go for the I/VS2 with Med Flour as the I is whiter and safer color and the med blue flouro will make it a bit whiter in person. While the strong blue flour in the J/SI1 will make it look whiter than other J colored stones- I dont know how your FI feels about the strong blue flouro.

I would go with the I for an engagement ring. I got a chance to look at a master set of diamonds (so fun!) and I could see a pretty big difference between the I and J colors. And a VS2 would be nice to have.

Another vote for the I VS2. $580 is totally worth the one grade up for both color and clarity

I think the most important question to ask yourself right now is, will you be kicking yourself for not paying the extra 500 bucks later? I completely understand the tight budget, so if you can't make it happen without too much burden, then by all means pick the one you are more comfortable with buying. Just make certain that you won't later regret not having spent the extra.

In my own personal opinion its only about 10% more on the price, and I'd definitely pony up the extra $$ just so I don't have to think about what if later,

While I voted for getting the I...if the incremental amount of money is a challenge, you can always go with the J and upgrade later if you want to.

Haha, not funny

It was a very fun process of learning 1000x more about diamonds than I ever thought I would from Pricescope and then actually deciding on one. I started my search about a month ago looking at extremely overpriced diamonds in a few B&M stores and ran across PS which opened me up to a whole new world of diamonds. I bought twice the diamond from BGD than I would have at the local jeweler.

I will be back soon needing some help with some proposal ideas
