Hi everyone!

Before the end of the calendar year I plan to make an honest gal out of my girlfriend and naturally was in the market for a diamond engagement ring. I did a quick search on a sports related BBS that I frequent and found that Pricescope.com was recommended to another individual who had asked about engagement rings in a post dated a couple of years back.

I started into the world of Pricescope only about 3 days ago and am in awe at the wealth of information located at this site. Needless to say it is an unbelievable resource to those who are in the market for such a large expenditure and surprisingly the lone gold standard AFAIK in an industry where information is severely lacking and limited only to the brick and mortar biased salespersons. I feel slightly overwhelmed only because there is such a large amount of knowledge to be had and I feel time crunched since I wish I had started doing my homework weeks ago. Nonetheless, I started reading all the tutorials on this website and looked over a list of reputable online vendors. Picture my luck when I found out that one of the best online diamond vendors is located right in my city (Houston) in Whiteflash

I''ve scheduled an appointment to meet with them and tomorrow I sit down with the VP of Whiteflash, Mr. Brian Gavin, whose credentials far outwegh anything I can summarize about him here. I wanted to ask you guys what questions do you think I should bring to the table, aside from my usual idea about what type of diamond I am in the market for? Here is what I know so far about what I intend on purchasing:

A Princess cut, roughly in the 1 carat range but anything slightly under or slightly over would work just as well.
The cut and color are my two biggest priorities since I would like for it to be "sparkly". My ideal color range is from D-F, although I don''t really know how much difference there is between an F to a G to an H. This is something I will get a chance to look over tomorrow.
Clarity, I presume, goes hand-in-hand, so anything in the VVS1 to VS2 would work, though, again, I''m not too sure how much different a VS2 would be from a S1. I will definitely ask tomorrow.

On their website they offer AGS/GIA certificate info along with an ASET image, where available. I really like their "A Cut Above" Princess diamond which just screams quality. I hope I can find one tomorrow that fits the bill!

Sorry about the length of the post. A few nerves are beginning to sit in since this is my first go round and I kinda wanted to get my whole spiel out, but I''m glad these forums exist to help out those who are seeking some advice

Thanks for reading.

First of all congrats! Second, you are in VERY good hands. Everything I have heard about Brian is that he is very honest and a wonderful person to help you select a diamond. He won't try to sell you anything he doesn't stand behind, and his advice will be good, easy to understand, and honest. Whiteflash is a great company and Brian will make sure you get a very high quality stone at a good price.

And you can probably drop the clarity and color requirement...but you can see in person tomorrow what works for you, which is really the best way!

You are going to have a very fun day!

You are so lucky to go in person! Have a wonderful and educational time and I am sure you will come away with a gorgeous diamond!

Good luck tomorrow, I''m excited to see what you two come up with.

Hi all,

I just wanted to provide some feedback and comments from my visit with Brian and Whiteflash last Friday, so here goes
1.gif

I honestly could not have walked out of there any more impressed at how educational, informative and professional the entire experience turned out. Brian's a wonderful guy who spent hours with me on Friday afternoon (it was also his birthday and I got a slice of cake out of it too

)providing me with so much insight it literally felt I was back in college sitting through a lecture on the subject, except this time I actually paid attention! He made it very comfortable to ask questions and used my responses to explain things further and in the end left me with all the info I needed to decide what my next step would be, all without having to pitch a sale. His motto throughout the afternoon was that I wasn't paying them for the diamond but for the first-hand knowledge worthy of the sticker price on the website, the diamond I was getting for free

Overall it was just a damn good experience that I guess I should have seen coming seeing how everyone's given so much praise to Whiteflash.com in these forums. I had practically a beginners background of engagement rings and diamonds in general, mostly gathered from the tutorials I've read at Pricescope and on Whiteflash.com. By that afternoon I felt so much more comfortable in the direction I was heading. With a couple more follow-up visits since then to basically finalize my choices, I've made my selection for the perfect ring and setting and couldn't be happier!

PS - Here''s me and Brian on his birthday after I''ve eaten my full of cake and he''s about to begin our appointment! Hopefully it uploads correctly...

So, did you pick something?

The Whiteflash team is without peer! Congratulations and let us know what you decided on.

Yup. Here are the specs on the center stone:

1.08 carat Princess cut
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 73.9
Table 70.3
Girdle: Extremely Thin to Medium
Measurements: 5.62-5.58X4.12
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible

I looked at the AGS report and everything look great. I compared the ASET image to what falls under an "excellent" image from Gary Holloway's website and things looked great there as well.

I can't find the pic right now of the setting, but I let my girlfriend pick that one out on her own and she was thrilled about the design so that went without any hitches at all. Once their craftsmen mount everything and I have the final ring I'll upload pics of that as well :)

You lucky guy!! You did it right. I love the idea of you picking out the stone and your GF picking out the setting. Do send us photos of the finished ring when it''s done.

Fantastic and I love the cake shot! MANY belated happy returns to you Sir Brian! Levardis your diamond looks incredible!

You lucky thing! I am green with envy!!! Hands down, no doubt Brian would have picked you a winner!!!

Come back with handshots asap!!

Great story! Thank you for sharing with us.
