Purchasing engagment ring

AGS and GIA are both fine.

It is my understanding that GIA have fairly loose criteria to hit triple-Excellent (I believe 60% of stones on the market are 3X...) whereas AGS are stricter because they rely on actual ray-tracing to grade light return.

There are still some AGS000 dogs on the extremes of the range, but generally I would say you are safer with AGS000 than GIAXXX.

I would also recommend going with BN for the setting. "Family friend" jewelers are almost always disappointing.

The 1.1 H SI1 I suggested is a fiery stone. You can go to crown angle of 36 if fire is what you are after. So let me get this straight- overall, you are aiming for a three stone and 7.5k cad is the total budget? I think that you can go with even smaller side stones. I recently got 23pt sides for my 2ct center stone.Overall, I think that anything between 10-20pt would look lovely with a 1ct center. Do you have a particular setting in mind?

I agree with SimoneDi about getting smaller side stones. The larger side stones will make the center appear smaller. I wouldn't go larger than 0.15. If BN cannot accommodate the same style with smaller sides in RG, then I would get a quote from David Klass for the same setting (0.10 - 0.15 side stones, 14K RG, 14K white gold prongs).

@msop04 OP is in CA which is why I think it will be safer/cheaper for him to stick with BN. I also like very much the 1.13 I VS1 https://www.bluenile.com/ca/build-y...939796?track=viewDiamondDetails&action=newTab

OP, I am yet to look for other choices. Honestly between med and stong flouro, I don't see a big difference, but the whole "clubbing" comment got me puzzled. Can you show to your significant other so pics of blue fluorescence and see what her feedback is? If she hates it, I would say let's look for stones with no flouro.

@OoohShiny AGS000 is easy to select - those are pre-vetted stones, but they do come at a premium. We are hand picking GIA stones for OP and for what he is trying to accomplish, I think sticking wounds GIA will be a better choice.

Ya I over exaggerated with the clubbing thing. The look you sent me looks great so I'm not worried. Whatever you guys got for me sent it my way. I'm going hard searching today because I will have to make a decision today/ tomorrow latest I believe

Totally forgot about being in CA! (sorry, OP!!)
Then, yes, stick with BN for everything. :)

I'm speaking with Martin from USA certed diamonds.
Read great things about him on here.

AGS and GIA are two that are the most trustworthy. AGS even goes further with their cut rating. You can't go wrong with either!

So I've narrowed it down to 2 diamonds based on the guidelines.
They are both 1.01 G Si1 GIAXXX hca 1.1
60.8 depth
58 table
34 crown
40.8 pavilion

The second is the same, but with a bigger diameter and 40.6 pavilion but SI1++. Hca is 0.6

Can you post the reports? The inclusions are probably different.

Report looks good. Is it eye-clean? Any pics?

Eye clean perfectly. Had a video in different views. Will receive more pics today. The hca 0.6, on the site it says anything under 1 is not good for rings. Should I be more than concerned ?

No, you should not be concerned. Once again, HCA is not a selection tool, it is a rejection tool. Everything below 2 is a pass. Post the pics when you get them.

Whomever you go with, I would suggest a three stone with a bit more elegance. The side profile of the one you selected from BN is all straight lines and wires...meh. My BF has basically the same setting. She really does not like it.

Something like this (same or nearly the same price) is more elegant and has better flow. What is nice about this setting is that it will also allow a flush-fitting wedding band. Less prongs and metal, more curves. Curves are good, right? ;)2

If you post the companies they can get settings from, we can point you in the right direction.

Can't put them up on here. Would you like to see them in email? (Give me some peace of mind) lol

Not sure why you can't put them here? There is an upload file on the bottom, next to post reply.
