Hi everybody, thoroughly enjoyed reading through the wealth of information on pricescope. I'm looking to buy an engagement ring for my bride to be in the next 2 weeks. I've currently got 3 stones on hold at james allen in order to have the idealscoped and compared for cleanness and brilliance.

1st stone (my personal fav. so far) - 0.70 carat H SI2 Excellent Cut, Polish, and Symmetry with no Fluorescence (also large diameter for its weight) - below I attached the reading from HCA on this stone, scored 1.2.

2nd stone - 0.70 carat I SI1 Excellent Cut, Polish, and Symmetry with Medium Blue Fluorescence - don't have the HCA saved unfortunately but I believe it scored a 1.7.

3rd stone - 0.75 carat J VS2 Excellent Cut, Polish and Symmetry with no Fluorescence - scored a 2.3 on the HCA.

If anybody can find any other stones with similar characteristics that I might be interested in I would be very appreciative.

However, until the reports come back from James Allen's gemologists my questions particularly pertain to the settings. Below are the links to my 3 favorites. The 1st is actually a bit out of my price range and I'm scared about how it will pair with a wedding band. What I would like to find out is which of these settings are your favorite and why? Or are there any other settings that you might suggest I look at. As you can tell from these 3 I definitely want some style of sidestones in the actual band. I'd also LOVE to see any actual pictures people have of these particular settings, with and without wedding bands. I've seen the pics of the recently purchased ones on the website but they are almost all identically positioned. Thanks so much ahead of time for all of your help.

Again, thanks for all the help and genuinely good information.

Re: Purchasing Engagement Ring Soon ... Looking for opinions

I am just another guy looking to buy a ring but I can give feedback on the settings as I have been showing them to a lot of people and getting a lot of opinions.

Setting #1 - Awesome if it fits in your budget.

Setting #2 - I have gotten feedback it is "too bumpy" how the pave diamonds sit. Seemed a lot of people didn't like it.

Setting #3 - My setting of choice if going for a ring with sidestones. I was highly considering that one and most people loved it but I will be going with a solitaire.

I appreciate the response. On the first ring, I'm really hoping someone can post a pic of it with a wedding band. If I like the look, I'd consider splurging. My biggest concern with choice #3 was how thin the band is, I believe it's 1.9mm.

Another thing I'm unsure of is that I hear alot about pave stones eventually falling out, what about the "common" prong in #3? Not really sure how they are different or what the durability concerns might be.

I do like the second one (though have never tried that one in particular) because it looks dainty and chic.
I also like the 3rd one, though less so because I don't like cathedral shanks on rings, but it is dainty also.
I don't like the 1st one so much, it's a little "standard" style wise (speaking as a girl) and that's not my personal taste.

Does she like dainty? Or would she prefer something more substantial?

On the diamonds- you'll probably get asked to post links to them so people can look at them.

Good luck!

Am I able to get links to the diamonds once they are on hold? That's why I didn't.

Just copy and paste from your browser in to here. They don't need to see the price, just the picture, I think, and have access to the report and statistics. I think you'll get some response then on them. You can probably search by item number if nothing else, but I'm not sure.

Edited previous post to include 2 of the links.

Re: Purchasing Engagement Ring Soon ... Looking for opinions

My preference is for stone 1 and ring 3.

#1 stone appeals to me more than the other 2 - not a diamond expert, but those stats would work for my requirements!

The #3 setting just seemed more delicate and versatile for future WB options. I think the diamonds seem to be well secured in there and add an extra bit of bling with out being too much (and in my opinion, the #1 ring was too pave for my taste and I agree w cawolf that #2 appears "bumpy")

Re: Purchasing Engagement Ring Soon ... Looking for opinions

Just wanted to add the HCA of the .7 ct I SI1 stone. So this stone actually scored 1.0 not 1.7 as I said in the original post.

Re: Purchasing Engagement Ring Soon ... Looking for opinions

I wanted to show everyone what I decided on and get opinions. I finally decided that I should get what I wanted even if I had to buy from separate places and have the stone mounted.

I chose this diamond: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Very%20Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1458876.asp

This is the idealscope image of the diamond:

I plan to have the main cloud pronged as much as possible.

I chose this setting: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/legato-sleek-line-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-422.htm

Now the question is should I take both to a local jeweler and have the stone set or should I ship the stone to whiteflash and have them set it for me?
