Disney is offering refunds to unhappy/underwhelmed parents that purchased Baby Einstein DVDs... here

According to the article, 1/3 of all American families with toddlers own at least one Baby Einstein DVD. The family I nanny for owns multiple DVDs and I occasionally pop one in if I''m folding laundry and need to entertain their youngest. She''s definitely captivated by the DVDs but I don''t think I''ll be using them anymore...

Yep, it''s true... "educational videos" for children under two are pretty much a waste. Especially since it hinders child developed play which is really important to their development. That and the more television that a child watches the less likely that they will be able to read by age six. Reading to them every day is a far better learning tool.

Thanks for posting this. I had been contemplating buying some of these for Daisy - she has zero interest in the TV, even kids programmes, and I wondered if she would like something on DVD aimed at her age group better.

I have a couple of their books which I was underwhelmed with, so I definitely won''t bother with the DVDS.

If only I had kept all the videos so I could exchange them.

I recall putting the Baby Einstein in when I wanted to take a shower. Sometimes my son would be okay (IF) he had other toys around him, other times, he''d scream through the whole video while I felt guilty for washing my hair.

I think it''s fine for entertainment for a little while. The point is that they were sold as educational and they aren''t. But they aren''t harmful either if used in moderation. It''s harmful if parents plop them in front of the TV instead of interacting with them all the time. But I am sure it''s FINE to let the little ones watch a bit while you fold laundry, take a shower, whatever!

Just as long as people don''t think they are educational I don''t think there''s an issue personally.

I used to play them for my grandkids when they were babies and, sadly, I really enjoyed them. They seemed mesmerized.
