Hi everyone,

I have been searching the boards here for about two weeks now trying to figure out what stone to buy for my engagement, and frankly it seems that I confused myself more. as I am now obsessed with cut quality and clarity. I have searched many vendor sites such as Adiamor, goodoldgold, uniodiamond,Blue Nile and Excel Diamonds. I have come to the conclusion that I want to find an eye clean preferably at least SI2, G color, 1.02 CT or better, Princess Ideal cut stone under $5,000 US. I have found many stones in this range but I am confused on what to choose sight unseen regarding table and depth as I know this affects brilliance to a point. My two major factors are Brilliance (fire), size, then the all important cost. the following are some examples I found from various vendors:

Excel Diamonds:

Carat : 1.04
Cut : Signature Princess
Clarity : SI1
Color : F

GIA Specifications
Certificate Number : 13791927
Measurements : 5.8 x 5.43 x 4.11
Depth : 75.7
Table : 58%
Girdle : Medium
Culet : None
Polish : Very good
Symmetry : Excellent
Clarity Characteristics : Crystal, cloud
Fluorescence : None

MegaScope Specifications
Crown Angle : 36.6
Crown Height : 13.8%
Pavil. Angle : 58.5
Pavil. Depth : 59.2%
$5700.00

Adiamor:

I''m not sure if there is a big noticable difference between a Superb cut and the Very good or Ideal GIA grade.

Thanks for the help in advance.

These stones are both a little more retangular than some princess cuts and I do not like the very thin girdle on the second one as princess cuts can be prone to chipping.

I am sorry that I know almost nothing about princess cuts. But you should stick with excellent or ideal cut and avoid very thin or thick girdles. That would rule out your second stone.

Here''s a possibility:

Nice pick DS... that''s a really nice princess. And with GOG you get all the pics. So cool.
