Hey everyone. Quick question for some of the experts here. I''m purchasing a diamond and a customer setting from a local jeweler. I want to get it appraised of course, but I''m curious as to the process. Should I get the loose stone appraised seperatly? Or is it better/easier to just get the entire finished ring appraised? A related question would be in terms of retun policy. The store has a 10 day return policy on the stone, but obviously not the customer setting. Worst case scenerio if the stone doesn''t appraise correctly, I could return it, get a different stone and then have it set in the customer setting (which would already be made at that point). Correct?

Sorry if this was a jumbled mess of thoughts. lol. I just happened to think about this and we''re going to purchase the stone and start the customer setting process on Saturday.

thanks everyone!

I personally would have the stone appraised seperatley than have the ring appraised with the stone in it. If you are confident the stone is exactly what you think it is ie don''t want the appraiser to confirm cut color clarity etc... you could forgo the loose stone appraisal an djust get the finished ring done. If the Stone is not and AGS or GIA certed stone I would deffinetly get it appraised loose.

I am not an expert.

Thanks Tareyton! I''m going to get the stone appraised seperatly per your suggestion.
