My FI sisters boyfriends grandparents (follow that????) dog was attacked by a coyote a few nights ago. She''s a little fluffy Bichon. The grandfather was walking her at night in the backyard, and the coyote grabbed her and ran into the woods! Said grandpa ran after it, barefoot, and was able to rescue it from the coyote. The dog (Baby) is in the hospital, still in critical condition, but they are sure she will make it. They were able to remove her oxygen for a while, but she has lots of broken ribs, bruised kidneys, and other pretty serious injuries. I hope she is OK!

FWIW, I guess coyote attacks of this kind have been on the rise in CT (this is not the first I''ve heard of in the past several years). And recently, Jessica Simpsons dog got killed by a coyote right in her backyard as well.

So scary!

Goodness!! I hope she recovers quickly

In CT? Oh goodness. I know our coyote population is on the rise, but I hadn''t heard of them attacking anybody''s pets yet. That is so sad

wow - this is the first time I''ve ever heard of a dog surviving - a successful rescue! I''m going to choose to focus on that aspect and say a big yahoo!!!

That is so sad. I hope she recovers quickly and is not terrified of going outside. That is one brave grandpa!

oh, thank goodness she''s going to be OK!

Poor baby.

What a brave and awesome grandpa she has!

Thanks everyone! Baby is still in critical condition, needing blood transfusions and the like, but it still looks like she''s going to pull through!

It''s weird for a coyote to be that ballsy around a human! Sounds like that area must be extremely overpopulated for one to act like that. Usually a coyote will only be that bold if it''s either starving and desperate or if it has gotten too comfortable around humans because someone was feeding it. Either way, I''d find out who in the area would be responsible for dealing with the problem and start writing some letters before someone''s kid gets attacked or something!

Glad to hear Baby''s hangin'' in there--that''s a lucky puppy to be loved enough that her owner would go up against a coyote to save her! Kudos to Grandpa!
