PSers who've been through the custom process - what did you wish you knew before that you know now?

Custom work is like gambling, don’t spend more than you are willing to lose. After a few fiascos I finally had my DH draw exactly what I want and that made a big difference. Of course even then it’s not always going to be exactly like you envisioned it. Communicate often and request a lot of updates.
