You say you are a trade member, but who are you?
First and Last Name, and business name please.

I think it is cowardly to post as you have without identifying yourself.

Thank you.
Now I do see a sigline.
I'm glad I asked.

But googling "Aaron Blinders, BDI LLC" has not shown me any link to the diamond trade, so I'm left pondering why I should consider you have any credibility to make the grandiose posts you've been making.

Care to post more about yourself, as have other trade members?

I suspect this poster might be a banned member.

Suspect Junebug? No suspecting necessary, FOR SURE its our old friend back again to play. He can't stay away! Insulting regular posters, stirring the pot, all the usual fun and games.

let him stir the pot maybe i can learn something.

PSBLINDER,

Welcome to Pricescope. Pot stirring is just fine. It’s needed actually. Thanks.

-----------------------------------------------------

PSBLINDER’s business credentials are irrelevant. He claims to be a trade member, apparently to the satisfaction of the admins since they label him as such and apparently he's not currently banned. That’s a matter of complying with the PS rules and it’s neither positive or negative about the merit of his words. There are some very savvy consumers and there are some idiots in the trade. That's not the point of the 'Trade' label. His choice not to promote his business online is his own business decision (or that of his employer). Possibly it’s a mistake, I guess that depends on what his business does but I for one welcome his input here, even if I don’t necessarily agree with everything he says.

I have no problem with people who offer differing opinions. The problem arises when the poster becomes insulting. What was the purpose of the "blind leading the blind" picture? To ridicule and insult. It offered nothing to the discussion. That is this poster's MO.

It's great until you're on the receiving end of his "opinions".

+1000

2023- if you have not been around long enough, you would not know part of what's behind the "rift"- and it has everything to do with independent thought- as well as the commitment of the owners of this forum to promote fairness and open discussion.
If the person making these rude posts is who many people suspect it is, their displeasure with me has everything to do with independent thought- questioning of "givens" and basically not being afraid to disagree with a concept that 50 vocal posters embrace.
Search around for discussions on 60/60.
PS mgmt steadfastly allowed questioning of some dearly held principles, and also discouraged personal insults and overall negativity. KUDOS to Andrey and staff for that.

Nah, no issues here, I just find the repetition of arguments a little familiar and overly dramatic for an internet forum. Seems like trolling to me.

Here is a tip: If you want to change how PS operates then come and post your opinion as often as possible and do so without attacking other members by derogating their contributions or by being overly dramatic. That's how you influence other people, if influence is what you truly desire. Establish your expertise by helping and offering an opposing veiwpoint. Coming in guns blaring just makes people tune you out. Of course, it stirs drama and garners attention, and if THAT is one's goal not true education then mission accomplished!

Ditto. I welcome differing opinions, especially if I can learn something from them, but there are ways to give them without insulting people. For instance, rather than just coming in and saying everyone is wrong, give what you think is the correct answer or correct advice (for instance maybe a summary of that yellow diamonds article), actually HELP the people looking for help, and people will be a lot more welcoming. If you're offering negativity but no help, it does no one any good.

It's very easy to criticize not having walked a mile in our shoes, and operated within the constraints we have. We do the best that we can within the constraints we have.

The constraints we have:

1. We cannot see the stones in person.

2. Many vendors will not provide video tapes AND ASETs (both).

3. Vendors that do provide video tapes and ASETS (and there is only ONE that does both of these) have a higher mark up (deserved). But many posters do not want to pay that mark up.

4. The ASET is a limited tool. Just because a facet is black in the ASET, which is based on a STILL still stone, doesn't mean that it won't light up when the stone is moving. And when it is WORN it moves. So a stone that has some black facets in an ASET is not automatically disqualified. We can agree to disagree on that, and that's fine. As long as you are polite about it, I'm okay with it. The only SOLUTION however, is to see the stone in person OR get a video. And again-- we are constrained that way. ALSO dark facets in an ASET can be part of the patterning of a stone. AGAIN, these do not automatically disqualify the stone. We have to keep in mind that the ASET is a limited tool, and that the diamond will be viewed much of the time, while moving.

5. The posters budget. If you read the posts you will see that many times we aren't given a realistic budget for the poster's desires. We do tell them that. We also tell them that the stones we have posted aren't the best ones and that they need to increase the budget. But if there is no movement on budget or carat weight/color -- whatever-- we are left recommending the "better" option among a bunch bad options. That's not to say we don't know what a nice stone is, it's just that nicely cut stones cost more, and often the poster just won't raise their budget, or lower their carat/color/clarity requirements as they SHOULD to get the best diamond for their pricing.

6. Fancy cuts are hard. I don't hold myself out as an expert, I am just one of the few people who is interested enough in them to have gained some LIMITED insight into which ones might work out and which ones won't. I have never said I am an expert. Never said I am in the trade and do not wear a trade badge. But frequently if *I* or one of the FEW other people intrepid enough to answer questions on the fancy threads do not answer, then no one will. If you think you can do a better job, please stick around and do so. We could use the help.

7. I do not have an agenda with JA and do not AT ALL prefer them over the other vendors for fancy cuts. BUT they are the only ones with a large stock of fancies with pictures provided so they are the ones that we have the easiest time searching at. ALSO, their business model makes them one of the cheapest vendors that provide ASETs. I am always THRILLED when someone chooses to go with ERD or GOG. ERD because I trust Mark's eyes over just about anyone but Brian Gavin's. And GOG because they provide so much information to base a great decision off of. BUT, some posters do not want to pay to have stones called in (and there is a charge), or they don't want to pay the mark up (GOG).

8. There is a charge at vendors for calling in stones that are not in current inventory. Many posters refuse to pay that charge.

I, and the other posters here, are always happy to learn better ways of helping our members. Please, politely, educate us on what you think we could do better and we will strive to do out best to do it.

Great post Gypsy- one thing though- I know there is more than one vendor who will provide ASET and video- we will, and I believe you're referring to someone else..

I did not know that Rock Diamond. I knew you provided video. But did not know you provided an ASET as well. I was referring to GOG. But you are right. AND actually another post reminded me that ERD might as well (I'm not 100% sure about that though). Hopefully others will follow. But that does help me, and the other posters on here.

PSblinders is a previously and permanently banned member. We do not welcome members who harass others and continuously break our policies as he has in the past.
