This is a public service announcement on how to layer for the cold. I just happened to catch sight of this piece while I was reading other news. My first thought was to add it to the end of the thread on how to dress in Chicago, but then I thought it might not get the attention of anyone who had not not followed that particular thread.
I learned a few things from this article, even though I have spent my entire life in New England. I did not know, for instance, that it was best to layer one's clothes loosely. I always layer my clothes, but I always put the layer closest to my skin on very tightly or else I get cold. In fact, that is one "trick" I found about dressing for the cold and I am reluctant to give it up despite the advice of this expert! (I am wondering if having one layer not be loose will undo all the good of the layering!)
I also did not know that it was important not to sweat in the bitter cold, probably because I have rarely experienced life threatening cold for more than a few minutes at a time.
At any rate, I know that spring is coming for those of us in the northern hemisphere, but read this if it interests you.
