Janine, I haven''t touched potty training at all. I''m gathering stuff in prep though. I''ve never even sat her on the potty nekkid. But, TGuy is going out of town for 2 weeks. I may try a little experiment then. If she resists, I''m going to put it off because I love the convenience of diapers.

LIA, good to see ya here!

DD, I often wonder myself how moms do it when they have to go to work, and the little one is sick. I feel blessed to work from home.

I really don''t have any Amelia news. She is finally better after being sick for two weeks, which included roseola. She''s speaking more every day and is generally a kid that doesn''t drive me to murder. We are taking a trip to Hawaii in Sept, and I am really happy to see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of not being able to take trips with the kid. I am "TravelingGal" after all and look forward to taking her to all sorts of places. It''s probably one of the top three reasons which is stopping me cold at the thought of having another one...waiting 2-3 more years to travel the world.

Oh, and on a personal biased mommy view thing...for the first time the other day I looked at her and thought she was beautiful. I''ve never thought that about her. Objectively, I always thought she was kind of a funny looking kid, and sometimes downright ugly. But I looked at her looking at something and saw these long dark lashes (where did they come from?), pert little nose and fair white skin and thought...wow, she''s pretty. Kind of strange to be 2 years down the line and finally think that about your kid. I was happy to finally be there!

She''s still has a little cough when she wakes up in the morning.
Other than that, she''s pretty much herself -- on the go when her eyes are open in the morning and fight naps and sleep.

Hi everyone! Just doing a quick drive by. I haven''t had time to go through all the posts but from skimming quickly, it sounds like all our little ones are doing great! Also wanted to welcome all the new toddler moms to this thread. A whole new world of excitement awaits you!!

Things are just chugging along in my household. Super busy at all times with work and 2 ridiculously active kids. Lily is starting to get invitations for 3rd birthday parties. We actually went to a tea party at the RUSSIAN TEA ROOM! Gotta love living in NYC.

I had never been there for myself and I will admit that it was a little decadent and way too mature for 3 years olds but it was a nice thought. It was only 4 little girls and their mothers so it was cute but a bit much. I asked Lily if she wants to have a party but she said she only wants cupcakes at school and then she wants to go see Elmo, Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, etc. We had once mentioned to her that we would take her to Sesame Place and the girl''s memory is ridiculous so now she''s throwing it back in our faces! So we may do that instead of spending big bucks on a party. She''s mellowing out quite a bit and really growing up so much. She has always said that I was her best friend but last night before she went to sleep, she said, "we''ll ALWAYS be best friends. I love you, mama" and I nearly started sobbing. Where do they come up with this stuff!?!?! SO cute. Oh, we also had a big milestone last night. After being pee trained for about 4 months now, she FINALLY pooped on the potty!!! Interestingly, she did it on the regular stand alone potty, not the potty seat that goes on the toilet that she always uses for pee. So maybe it has something to do with a fear pooping in the toilet. I don''t know but I hope this is the start of a trend!

Lucy is still way ahead of the game because she''s trying to keep up with her sister. She talks non-stop and we can actually understand a lot of it!! She is even putting 2 words together. The other night, she and Lily were having a little conversation and I heard her say, "stop it, Lily". Too funny! When I ask her what her name is she says Lucy and she told me her favorite color is BLOOOOOO. She is definitely the class clown and is truly a delight to be around. She always has a twinkle in her eye and is very affectionate. She sits on the potty and says pee pee but she hasn''t done it yet so I''m not even going to think about it but at least she knows what it''s all about. She''s moving into an older toddler class at daycare next week so I think she may be exposed to more potty stuff which may help.

Regarding potty training, once again my only advice is to not force it. Make sure the potty is accessible, let your kids go into the bathroom with you and explain what you''re doing and most importantly, follow their lead. I never pushed Lily. I always asked her if she wanted to use the potty. Sometimes she said yes, sometimes she said no. She wore Pull Ups from age 2 but I always told her that I would buy panties when she decided she was going to use the potty. She would wake up with a dry Pull Up so I knew that she had bladder control. After a while, she started wearing panties over the Pull Ups. But I still never pushed her, just always asked if she wanted to use the potty. And then one day, out of the blue, she announced that she wasn''t going to wear Pull Ups anymore, just panties. And that was it. She won''t even wear a Pull Up to sleep. She''s only had a handful of accidents too. She even has no problem going in a public bathroom as long as I fully paper the seat and hold her up so her little butt doesn''t fall in! So I think the key is really letting them lead you. If you push them and it''s too soon, it could cause more harm than good.

That''s my lesson for the day!

Great update curly! Russian Tea Room with 4 little girls, that is decadent! I will melt when I hear the words "I love you mama", Lily is just charming. And Lucy is a star as always. I love affectionate kids (C lets me cuddle, so I''m hoping things stay this way). I''m a ways off from potty training, but C also says pee pee and motions smelly when she does poop, so at least she knows. I overheard someone on the train (you know it''s the suburbs when people talk about potty training on the way home)--and they said just expect them to get it down by 3. This guy (YES guy) said you can start them at 2, and they''ll go back and forth and eventually figure it out by 3. You start them at 3, they''re done at 3. WHO knows what kind of validity that opinion holds, but I like that combined with your advice of not forcing.

Now binky and bottle weaning is still on my plate, so I better focus on what does need to be forced meanwhile

Sounds like your little girls are doing great Curly! A tea party for a 3 years old does seem a bit over the top, but I''m sure it was fun.

Janine - we''re fighting the bottle war now too. Kyle''s been taking the sippy at daycare for months now, but just doesn''t want anything to do with it at home! I''m thinking if buying a different type and trying that route, any reccomendations from the toddler moms? We''re currently using short Munchkin double handled ones with the silicone spout. I think he doesn''t like having to pull it out of his mouth to let air in (they don''t vent very well).

13 months today, it''s been 3 weeks since Kyle started walking, and he''s really getting it down. He learned how to turn this week, so he''s been pacing up and down the hallway carring random items at night. I think he''s adding a few more works, Hi has been repeated several times, along wiht the mama, dada and byebye he''s been doing already. He does seem to forget old words when he finds a new one though.

And I have a question on food. Lately he seems to be eating like crazy. I printed out a feeding guidline sheet from Beachnut, and their daily food intake is way less than what Kyle''s been eating. He''s about 21 pounds, and has been eating around 20-24 ounces of food at daycare, and another 12 or more ounces for dinner. Plus 24 ounces of milk/formula/water. Does that seem like a lot for his size?
 
Quick question toddler mommies-I''m looking to buy some swimgear for C even though summer is months away. Are those sun suits worth it? If so, short sleeves/long sleeved, one piece? What really makes sense?

I have some really cute suits she got for this upcoming summer as gifts, but I can''t see myself using it a ton for serious beach days, as I really like the protection those sunsuits give her. She''s really really pale, and even her doc said I should make a big effort to protect her skin.

That being said, I''m a big believer in natural vitamin D, so I''d put her in a regular suit with sun exposure for a brief time if it wasn''t peak hours. I actually don''t put sunscreen on her for brief walks outside. I just think always being shielded from the sun can''t be a good thing, but there are definitely two camps of thought out there on this.

Thanks TGAL. I''ll get C a regular swimsuit in addition to the sun suit. I just wasn''t sure if long sleeved was too warm, one pieces were annoying w/diapers,etc. The mid sleeved one seems like a good compromise! Agree on Vitamin D exposure too. I just cant wait for summer--saw some little beach chairs and umbrellas for sale at buy buy baby...so cute!

Might be hot where you are...over here, low humidity and the beach is always warm, but usually not too hot with breezes blowing. I like the mid sleeve though. But if it gets hot and humid over there, maybe a short sleeve would work better.

I definitely like two pieces for Amelia myself. Way easier to change her when I need to. I
 
I am so behind. Tessa had her second flu yesterday/Thursday night. I felt like i had a newborn again. She was in good spirits and kept saying she was sorry she "burped." I think it was a 24 hour bug b/c she seems to be doing much better today.

I have been looking more into day cares and found a place that seems REALLY flexible. They offer part time full day child care (9.5 hours if I need it) which is a good option. It is $60 a day or $50 a day for 2+ days. They also offer flex time which is in 4 hour blocks. So tell me if you think this plan is silly. I was thinking about keeping her in her preschool b/c she loves it, it is a good price ($180ish a month for MWF mornings), etc...then add one full day. Hopefully I can take both classes on the day she is in day care and then use her preschool/nap time to study. My MIL is also committed to help but I don''t want to use and abuse her too much. It might not always be possible to take day classes (most are offered at night) but I can try. The lady who runs the daycare has e-mailed me back w/in the hour all three times I have e-mailed her. I told her the situation and she said it was flexible so I could have her go on Tuesdays for a semester and then change her to Thursdays (for example). I like that I don''t have to lock in a set time/day. I am going to try to visit it soon to make sure I get a good vibe. Research makes me feel SOOO much better!

I think that could work well. I wonder if it would be better to have instead 3 full days for work instead of 3 halfs and one full? Play it by ear. You will learn quickly how much you need to work.
 
Hey ladies!! I''ve been a terrible PS friend lately. DH went out of town for a week for work (nice timing!!) and K has started to show signs of the lovely food intolerances so I''ve had a fuss on my hands!

I cute out dairy and corn already but if he continues to show signs I will probably have to go to the total elimination diet which I am so not looking forward to. Tayva was also pretty needy all week with DH out of town and she decided she wanted to start using the potty pretty regularily, which would be great except when I can''t put K down because he''s inconsolable and T is jumping up and down b/c she has to pee! Enough of my whining....gonna try and catch up a bit...

Tacori~That sounds like a great situation. Since they''re flexible you can just try it out and if it doesn''t work out with your studying/classes you''ll be able to change it up. Hope you like the day care when you go visit! So glad Tessa is feeling better!

Hi Curly! Your girls are just so cute!! Yay Lily for pooping in the potty!

Mgal~So cute K is becoming a pro at walking. I think with the food you just feed him if he''s hungry and not worry about it. There will be days he eats a ton and other when he may not eat much and it all works itself out.

Snlee~We took T to a wedding at 15 months and she did great. We didn''t stay late, actually left around her bed time but had no issues at all.

Okay, I know I missed a lot and I''m sorry. I''m reading when I can but just don''t have the time and/or energy to post often. DH got home late last night so hopefully I can sneak a couple naps in and I''ll be a better PS friend soon!

Just popping in to say, I found the magic sippy cup! We''ve been able to do just one bottle feeding a day, and he''ll take the sippy the rest of the time. The one that worked for us is this one, they''re a nice middle road from the bottle type silicone ones, and the hard plastic ones. Just thought I''d share!
 
any of you toddler mom's have ball pits? We want to get one for Jake for his b-day but I have no idea which one to get?

mrsS B loves his ball pit. i got him one from one step ahead awhile ago. not sure they still have that one. but the ball pit is a hit with all the kids who come over to the house.

i am feeling tons better and it''s been so nice out lately. i took the boys to the park yesterday and B had a great time. noah just hung out and watched everything. he is such a good baby, i can hardly believe it. but of course i''m sure it''ll change when he is awake more often. he is still sleeping like crazy and still STTN, thank goodness!!

we''re off now to do a little shopping at an outdoor mall since it is nice out.

MrsS, the ball pit is such a hit. Older kids, babies, tots...they ALL love it. We have this one. Pros: The nets kinda help contain the balls. Large so multiple kids can play in once. Cute without being annoying. Cons: Large. Takes up 1/4 of her playroom. Only comes with 25 palls so I spent around $100 on 100 additional balls (but it is pretty full). Get a plug in inflater thing. I cannot even imagine blowing this baby up without one.

MGal, glad you found something that works for you guys! It can be frustrating for sure.

Burk, I just need to get over the mommy guilt of taking her to daycare. Not that there is anything wrong with it but I guess b/c I am not actually working it seems like a cop out. I am crazy. Sorry K is having issues. What a PITA! We are SO far from potty training. I don''t even want to think about it honestly.

DD, you are right. I just need to get over it (see above). I am thinking I might try 2 full days and 3 half days. Yeah, it is a lot but she will be almost 3 when she starts and we will have 3 afternoons and the whole weekend to have fun. I just really want to do well at school.
 
janine--i like the full coverage sun suits and use them when i know co will be outdoors for long periods. I just got my aunt to pick up one for me in australia b/c they were cheap and plentiful there. However, i am not one for major sun protection. We get soooo little of it here that i actually try to maximize exposure. But i am in north so obviously a little different.

Burk--I hope that you get some rest when DH is around! Nap it up. I love your pro pics btw. I really should do some too.

Mustang--i wouldn't worry too much about food intake. Co was eating way more than recommended at some stage too. He still eats way more than me for breakfast. They say babies and toddlers don't normally overeat, and stop when they are full so i'd just go by his cues. I bet he's just really burning calories now that he's walking.

Curly--the girls sound like they are doing great as always. Hope to see some tea-party pics!!!

Jas--ah, crumbs. Well, it could be too early. I had FN's on both my pregnancies and had to re-test. Let us know.

Tacori--looks like you have a good option there. I agree with DD, maybe play it by ear and see how much time you need.

lili--glad J is better. Co has been fighting naps and bed too. The time change didn't help either, he yaps away until it gets dark in his room!

I am on march break here. yay! A week off work. But man, today was my first day off and i am toast. Work is a breeze. I took Co to the park, out to lunch with friends, cleaned the car/yard, did some grocery shopping, dinner, more outdoor play, walmart trip and now i am ready to go to bed at 8:00!! I can barely keep my eyes open right now. It's all the up and down & lifting of playing with a 2 year old with a big belly and really sore back. We had a great day, but this week is gonna kill me!!!I am over being pregnant.

Speaking of walmart, i got guilted into buying easter stuff as i walked in the door and saw the huge displays. Co is so spoiled from the grannies, but i got some neat markers and easter straws & cup and a basket to collect eggs. That's all he's gettin !!
I liked Tacori's idea of a plastic egg hunt cuz i didn't want to get any candy (he still doesn't really know what the stuff is so i am holding off as long as possible) but i feel like he should have *some* kind of treat so i got the plastic eggs that open and bought some teddy crackers and some of those fruit juice gummies so i'll just put one of those in each egg so he can open it and have a little bit of a treat. I thought it was a pretty good compromise

I''ve never seen one like Tacori''s in store. All the ones I''ve seen are a lot smaller and have roof or some other features. We got one for our nephew before, and he loves it (forgot which one we got). I thought about getting one for M, but we don''t have room for one. Good luck finding one for Jake.

We went to Walmart yesterday, and the Easter stuffs is right at the door. M points to the plush bunnies right away; we just let her hold one while in store and put it back before we check out. DH asked if I am doing something for Easter (as in egg hunt), but we decided to wait until next year when M is a little older.

Nothing new with us. M had been putting everything in her mouth lately. She probably ate some crayons today b/c there were some orange color on her molar. MIL let her draw when she was making breakfast, and I guess she decided to have crayons instead. I talked to her about not putting non-food items in her mouth, but she is not listening. What else can I do? or is it enough to just continue reinforcing that it''s bad to put non-food items in her mouth?

I introduced paci to J, and he had been sleeping more and is less fussy. And that''s just fine with me. LOL.

I''m seeing a doctor that specializes in breastfeeding tomorrow to get some tips on the food intolerance and I also have vasospasms so hoping she''ll prescribe something to get them to quit because they''re painful!

Tacori~I totally understand mommy guilt. I went through it. We could easily live off of DH''s income but I really like to work part-time so I felt guilty for choosing to work and have her in daycare but I think she actually loves it and it''s good for her and it''s good for me to work too. Tessa will love all the social time being the social little thing she is and you will need that time to focus on school. As for potty training...I''m actually in the mind frame right now that it would actually be easier if she just didn''t want to pee in the potty. It''s a total PITA to have to quit nursing K to go take T to the potty. Oh, and yesterday she fell in the potty at daycare!!! I got there and she had new clothes on and I was like what??!?!

Jas12~Yay for a week off school!! Our break is next week so I''m going to go in and do some work because my sub is leaving to sub for another long term (I''m so not happy about this because he did not even tell me he would be doing this) so I have to prep the next sub.

QT~Glad the paci is helping J. I gave one to K at like 3 days because I needed some relief. Whatever works! No advice on putting stuff in M''s mouth...T never really did that. I would think continuing to just reinforce that it''s yucky and it''s a "no no" would eventually help her get the picture.

Like I told Puffy, I''m going to see a doctor who specializes in breastfeeding tomorrow. K has his one month check-up today and I''m looking forward to seeing how much he weighs because he feels huge these days. I''m going to talk to his pedi about some of the issues I''m seeing the doctor tomorrow (food intolerance, reflux, vasospasms) and see if we can''t come up with a plan between the two doctors so that K can start feeling better. I''m guessing that plan is going to include me cutting out more foods (BOOOOOO!) but hopefully it''ll help the poor guy feel better.

lili, how are you doing?

easter stuff - I put a basket with plastic eggs on the table for decoration. I haven''t let D play with them yet but every time he sees them he says ball! I''ll have to teach him they are eggs.

wedding - MG, jas, Burk, QT, thanks for weighing in. MG, if it were a family wedding, we''d probably bring D since family can help watch and play with him. Plus I''d be nice for family to see him. jas, you bring up a good point. We wouldn''t bring D if he''s not invited. We just received a save the date, not the invite yet, but we have asked if kids are welcomed. Still waiting to hear back. QT, the would be fun dancing with D! didn''t even think of that. Burk, not sure if we''d be able to leave around his bedtime and even though I''m okay keeping him up late for special occasions, that''s another reason why I think I''d be better if he didn''t go.

I''ve been sick the last 5 days. sore throat, stuffy nose, achy body, and chills. It hasn''t been fun. I''m back at work today but still not feeling 100%. The whole family got it. Thankfully D hasn''t been as miserable as me. It seems he just has a stuffy/runny nose and is a bit tired sometimes but overall seems okay. DH has been so great, even though he''s catching whatever I have now. He''s been doing so much more since I''ve been in the yucky 1st trimester! I''m so lucky to have him.

I''m in need of some bottle weening advice. At almost 18 months I haven''t been able to wean D off the bottle because he won''t drink milk from anywhere else! He''s never taken to the sippy cup or staw. He just bites it then pushes it away. He''ll drink straight from a cup now with some assistance to make sure he doesn''t spill it but only water, juice, or smoothies! We don''t give those to him often so he''s not regularly drinking from a cup. I tried milk and he took a sip, realized what it was, and pushed it away. What to do?
 
snlee, is he capable of drinking out of a straw, or just doesn''t prefer to do it?

I followed your tip of using your finger to help him learn to drink from the straw but it never worked. I can''t get him to suck. He just bites the straw. Any other ideas?

Puffy – your good luck with baby #2 is starting to make me feel not so scared about having a second…


Tacori - Tessa will love daycare, at her age it’s great that she’s learning to interact with other kids. Don’t feel guilty and enjoy yourself at school.


Jas12 – He seems to have slowed a bit, he was just starting to look like a balloon belly with stick arms and legs! Somehow I managed to walk right past the Easter stuff this weekend without even noticing! We’re going to my mom’s for a big Easter brunch, and she already has an egg hunt planned, so I might be able to skip doing something at our place this year. The snacks in the eggs sounds like a great idea!


QT – Kyle sticks everything in his mouth too. There’s probably not much you can do other than tell her no. Not sure if this would work with toddlers, but maybe put something spicy/bad tasting on the items she likes to try to eat? We did that with the dog and it seemed to work

Burk – I hope the doc can help you get thing going better, you’re amazing for BFing through all the food issues!


Snlee – Kyle was actually named on the STD, but I was worried as to whether he was invited until we received the real invitation, which also had him listed. I’d say go with your DH and have a great time. On bottle weaning, we’re trying that battle too, here’s what’s working so far: We only give him a sippy during the day, and even if you just put water in it, try to keep it around. He might get interested enough to take a sip or two. At meal times try milk and just put it on the tray and don’t try to force it on him. Last night Kyle drank ½ a sippy of water while he ate dinner, it was awesome! He still fights it a bit at night, it seems to work better if I hold him and feed it to him like a bottle, then he’s not in control and can’t throw it. I’m hoping in about a month to get rid of his morning bottle, that’s going to be the tough on for us, he eats half asleep.


We’re in for an adventure this weekend, I got DH tickets to a baseball Spring Training game. We took Kyle to a few games last year, but a squirming 13 month old will be completely different than a sleeping 3 month old! They do have a big lawn seating section, so we might have to sneak out there if he gets really restless. Now that he can walk he just does not want to stay in one place for long.
 
Jas12, I am sure co will love the easter eggs. What about some more bubbles? Those pictures were great.

QT, I got mine at Target (B&M). Not sure if they still carry it. The ones with roofs made me nervous. But I worry about safety. T puts things in her mouth too. I usually say "icky" and she will stop.

Burk, LOVE your pics! Beautiful family. Poor thing. I REMEMBER falling in the potty when I was around 3 (at nursery school). It was traumatic.

snlee, I had success with Nuby sippys b/c they are so similar to a bottle. Have you tried those? Here is what she used for a long time. Then I switched to hard sippy cups and straw sippy cups. I stopped giving her milk in her bottle and ONLY would give it to her in a sippy. I kept water in her bottle. She loves milk and eventually she switched over. She was 15 months so not much younger. Sorry you were all sick!

MGal, I am sure she will love it. Mommy guilt is powerful stuff though.
