A lot of posters in the "Dislike" thread mentioned how PS had changed their taste or shown how some things they isliked could be lovely. So, how has PS changed your taste in stones?

For me:
- I have come to appreciate larger stones. I used to think a 1ct coloured stone was large. Now, I wear a 1.7ct spinel every day
- Cut, cut, cut! Yep, I appreciate well cut stones now
- I started appreciating the impact of saturation on coloured stones. Now, I can clearly see the difference in saturation level and love a good colour!
- Yellow gold. I used to dislike yellow gold, prefering cool white metals. Now, I like how yellow gold can show off certain colours and the lovely richness of higher carats.

I came into it wanting a G VS and turning my nose up at lower colours and clarities... now if I only had the $$ I'd be on the hunt for a big K-M cushion

, and I don't look above SI1 for any of my diamonds//

More than that, though, I really appreciate how things I don't like on me can be absolutely gorgeous on someone else. SMTR will do that to you!

I used to prefer wg-even tho most of my stuff is in yg, now I don''t so much prefer one over another, I just go by what color looks best w/the stone.

I had never seen a lot of the different cuts-round brilliant/princess/emerald is all I''d ever known, and I thought rb was IT. Now I love chunkier cuts and cushions. I''d seen bezels before but never really cared for them..after spending time here and seeing fabulous examples, I found they really speak to me. Even when I first came and started seeing (for example) Asschers w/trap sides, I just didn''t care for the look, but the more I saw, the more I liked and now I hope to have one down the road. I''ve always liked colored stones, but I have more of an appreciation for them now, and hope at some point to have a collection of cs rings and also loose to play with.

I don''t think PS has changed my taste so much as help me better describe it. The things I used to be attracted to I still am, but can now pick out the higher quality from the lower. I am also more confident in asserting my point of view. It''s not that I don''t appreciate the jewelers expertise, it''s just that I am a MUCH more informed consumer!!

Oh, Pricescope has change my level of consumption! MORE IS BETTER!!!!

The last is for sure! I have spend a lot more on stones after PS. Now, I need to start spending on settings as well.

Ditto!

I also have a newfound love for rose gold which I had never even heard of before PS. I also now prefer to save up to buy good quality at a high price, rather than quantity. It will likely be a couple years before I get my next piece, but I''m perfectly pleased with what I spent on my .85 carat studs! :)

PS has helped me to refine my taste, pay attention to what I like, and hold out for the good stuff! After staring at so many gorgeous pieces of jewelry I have come up with a list of what I consider "staples" (in the sense that jewelry can be a staple. of course) and hope to collect over the next many years.

I am also all about the cut and am proud to say that I can see the difference.

I''ve always been of the "bigger is better" school but I have come to appreciate the delicate, beautiful bling of smaller pieces like tiny eternity rings and baby huggie earrings.

I''ve learned that I don''t need to spend obscene amounts of money on crappy diamonds just because someone behind the counter says they are great.

And I''ve learned that a custom made ring can be much less costly than strolling into a big name jeweler! Who knew!

I've learned that I am not the only one that has a hard time working with sales people at jewelry stores.

And I've learned there is a setting for every cut of stone that highlights it's beauty.

It''s definitely changed the way I''ve looked at diamonds! I wasn''t too into colored stones before, but now I love them!

Growing up, I always wanted the biggest stone at the best quality in the flashiest settings. While I don’t think lurking on PS influenced that, I think it did reinforce it somewhat. However, after actually getting what I thought I wanted, I learned that while I enjoy looking at all the bling in pictures, I actually wanted something more simple IRL and ended up ‘downgrading’ my setting. PS did give me great inspiration for the solitaire + eternity ring combo which I never would have considered otherwise.
