I bought a ring less than 1 month ago. It''s sterling silver with rhodium plating, however today, I noticed teenie tiny chips and scratches (can barely be seen without magnification) in the rhodium. I''d like to know what my options are as far as protecting this from continuing and also for long-term protection.

Is rhodium the best choice? Is it my only choice? The ring is a very "glassy" (more stones than metal) cocktail ring with a design I could not find in any metal other than silver. Because there are far more stones visible than any metal, I don''t feel the need to keep the whitest metal possible. Basically, I''d prefer to protect the metal over having the whitest possible metal.

Also, where are my best choices for having this done? How do I know which jewelers will do this correctly?

Thank you!

I don''t think there''s anything else you can do, except to periodically have it replated with Rhodium. It''s going to scratch, there''s no way around that, unless you don''t wear it.

Any jeweler can do this for you, and it should cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40 dollars.
