Ok so here is a 2 part thread for you guys.

1.) So after talking with Yekutiel at IDJ I found the perfect ring. I described to him what i wanted. Ideal cut but also as much flash for the cash ;) He informed me with a princess cut you must go with a better grade color and whats also important is the dimensions b/c a perfect 1.5c could appear much bigger than a poor 2c princess cut.

Going to Hawaii on the 24th for 5day and thats when i'm gonna pop the question. Now i just have to figure out a good plan/idea to do it. Here is the ring. I should have it within a week or so.

and it would be in this setting

2.) The second thing i wanted to ask you guys is where do you think the best place would be where I could sell her old ring. She got it at whiteflash.com and its "a cut above' which is apparently better than "ideal cut" Its a 1.014c princess cut. color I VS2 and its ags graded. Any idea what I could expect to get for this and where would be the best place to sell it?

Well, I would sell it back to WF. They sometimes buy back their own stones. If they don't, and if the ring is pre-2000 Brian Gavin might buy it. And if THEY don't JA might buy it. Or GOG. Since it's an ACA there are lots of options for you!

Question, why didn't you trade in that diamond at WhiteFlash toward a new, larger stone?

But to answer your question, I would open a Diamond Bistro account and list the ring with pictures, WF info, and the grading report. Then, post a thread on the Pre-Loved forum (which is found under PriceScope Cafe) and provide the link. Look at comparable stones on the WF site and price your stone less (maybe start at 25% off?).

+1. With it's pedigree--WF has a trade in/up policy; but I guess you opted out of that?

There is a pre-loved forum here that might be an option for you. Or consignment with Pearlman's or Jewels by Erica Grace or GOG....

cheers--Sharon

thanks guys. I didnt go with the trade up from whiteflash b/c I went with IDJ to purchase my new ring and they were not interested in the other one b/c its ags graded. The ring was purchased in 2008 so its not pre 2000. My main ? is what would the approx value for this be? Im not looking to get the highest price on this, im just curious what this would fairly go for? Any idea's?

$5,500-6,750 is my guess. Retail comps are ~$7600-$8700 for this branded cut. It's a desirable cut grade, size and clarity. But, of course, you can't offer the same perks and guarantees as a buyer gets buying directly from Whiteflash, so generally you can expect to take a haircut as a secondary seller.

If it was a round I'd tell you to sell it on DB. Since it is a princes and those just don't move I REALLY suggest contacting Jon at Good Old Gold and seeing if he will buy it from you for 5k or so. It would be the quickest way. OR consign it with him. Princesses just do NOT move on Diamond Bistro or Pre-loved.

purchase price back in 08 was $4k for it and whiteflash offered to buy it back for $3k. I think i'll just do that. thanks guys.

I think you might be able to get more for it than that, although I do get the advantage of just doing it the easiest way!
