Proposal Overseas Question

I've performed my searches and read probably 20-something different threads and still have questions.

I am considering proposing overseas in Cancun. I've read all the things you're supposed to do in regards to securing your ring (keeping it on you or the carry on), put it in a safe when you get there, not taking it in the water, etc.

But what I do want to know is are there are any forms to take jewelry into Mexico (I've never been)? What about coming back into the US? What I want to do is just keep it in my carry on and then securing it when we get to the resort until I do the proposal. Is there anything else I'm missing?

I would just have a copy of the receipt on you for when you come back into the US. Just in case customs gives you problems (and thinks you bought it in Mexico, and owe duty on it).
