Prongs set on the arrows?

I've noticed that some intentionally set the prongs on the arrows, while others set them in between the arrows. Is this just personal preference or is there an effect on performance? The setting that we have in mind is the Vatche U-113 (six prongs). Thanks for any insight!

Well usually there are 6 prongs and 8 arrows, so somewhere around the circumference a prong may overlap an arrow.

When I had mine set I asked for the arrows to be set at 12 & 6 so the arrows go up and down, whereas it seems the prevailing taste is to have them set at 11 & 1 if that makes sense. Some vendors just plop it in there and wherever the arrows end up so be it. If you want yours a certain orientation be sure to tell them before setting!

It's more personal preference, but I do remember watching a video made by a jeweler who said that setting the 4 prongs over the arrows is safer for the diamond because the prongs rest on a flat spot rather than on the middle of where two facets meet, and that the diamond is less likely to rotate in the setting because of that. There were diagrams and everything in the video. I can't seem to find it now but I'll post the link later if I can find it for you.

Would love to see the video if you're able to locate it. Thanks so much for the feedback!

ETA: You beat me to it, thanks for sharing!

I think it's a personal preference. I specifically asked to set the stone so that the arrows are not covered because I like seeing them. I'm not sure it can be done with a 6-prong setting though.

We like seeing the arrows too. I was told by the jeweler that it could be done (I'm assuming a couple of prongs would not be on the arrows). My main concern is that the GIA inscription is not covered. If it is just personal preference and doesn't effect performance, I think I'm leaning towards off-set so we can see the arrows. Thanks for the feedback!
