I bought a setting that is all 14k WG, even the prongs... but i was told that platinum prongs are stronger... what r yalls thoughts on this?

Platinum is stronger than gold so I would say that platinum prongs would be stronger.

After all my research on p.s i have read one thing over and over:

"Platinum prongs bend, gold prongs break"

So, Id rather have the platinum prongs just to be on the safe side. Better to fix a setting then having to replace a stone!

Neither material is "better" full stop imho, it should come to personal preference and budget.
Keep in mind platinum can bend, as mentioned - if a prong bends out, this will create a loose stone just as easy as a broken one.

I went with 18k YG ring with WG prongs and didn't think twice about it.
I am sure its possible, but I am struggling to think (with a well made ring), how you would achieve snapping a prong..?

Was it your jeweller who informed you platinum prongs are better? They are also alot more expensive..

I asked this question ages ago when I was a newbie and I speficially remember Gary (aka Cut Nut) stating that Plat is the bees knees! Enough said I believe, I went with plat, but I am sure WG is just fine too if you want to save a few $$$.

In either material, you need to ensure that your prongs are inspected and fixed immediately a problem pops up. If the prongs are damaged, loose etc, it doesn''t matter what material they are, you run the risk of losing your stone
