I didn''t want to thread jack Dreamer dachsie post. She had posted a picture of here ring with a gap between the prong and stone. I have sent back my 8 prong martinis, because there was gaps between the prongs and the stone. They said ''the gap between the stone and prongs cannot be adjusted because of how the earrings are constructed. They have a high gallery bar that''s just below the girdle of the diamond so the prongs have a short space to wrap around the girdle before it gets to that bar.'' It looks like the prongs were cut with a saw. It doesn''t fit the stone properly . Does anybody think that sounds right? I just don''t want to have problems down the road. I will get them back Wed.

If the seats for the diamonds girdle edge are cut too deeply originally, this cannot be adjusted short of cutting the prongs off and rebuilding the prongs as well as recutting the seats for the diamond. This does not have anything to do with the way a crown or setting is constructed however...it would speak highly of the company should they take care of it, if they are in fact set incorrectly...

hail to the king baby...LOL j/k

I love that movie!

Prongs should fit the stone properly. Check out this link for diagram of properly set prongs vs. improperly set- which are a potential for problems..

Mole, thank you for you reply. Hopefully I will get this resolved. I just love Bruce Campbell.....

Missrocks....that''s what I thought. It should fit properly, not all jagged. It looks like it was cut out with a saw. I just left an e-mail for them. i have asked for it to be remade so it will fit right. Thank you so much for that link...that was what I was looking for, but couldn''t find it.

I hope they fix it for you; it doesn''t sound like it''s right.

Marcyc, Yes, I hope they fix it too. I really like the setting. I was so happy with it until I saw how they were set.

Just wanted to say that the webpage MissRocks posted is awesome!

I wished I''d had this available when I was approaching the jeweller regarding the (shocking) setting job done on my ring.

It did make me laugh though, because almost every single one of those errors was present between the two setting jobs that were done... that''s pretty impressive.

Back on topic: Gothgrrl, I think you did the right thing in sending your earrings to be fixed. Ultimately, if you don''t think it''s right it will bug you forever... and better to be safe than sorry with the security of your diamonds'' setting!

Okay so I talked with their jeweler, and from what he says about the girdle being bruted, it is almost impossible to have all the prongs cup the stone. Something about the bar connecting them...and the prongs being so short. I don't quite understand why it couldn't be all fitted, but they are going to make me a whole new set. They said because of the 8 prongs, there would be no saftey issues. All I want is to make sure they are secure. I am trusting their judgement, as they should know what's best. Any opinions on this?

Bumpity, bump, bump.

I must say I have never seen 8 prong martini style earrings. That said I have seen tons of four prong martini style earrings and the bar right under the girdle of the diamond and the short prongs are the same.

I have never had a problem setting diamonds in four prong martini style earrings correctly (i.e. all of the prongs touching all parts of the diamonds).

I definately agree that with eight prongs in earrings there should not be any durability issues as earrings generally don''t take the same amount of abuse as a ring or a bracelet.

Having never seen the diamond it is not possible to comment on whether a bruted girdle is the cause of the problem, however if they agreed to remake them for you they must be confident that it can be set better, so there should be no future problem.

hope this helps...

Thanks...they have shipped it out and I will get it tomorrow. I can''t wait to have them on my ears.

Okay so I picked up my earrings. I am so excited to have them back. Well, while I was louping them, I noticed they say 750 18K not only on the posts but also on the backings. I''m about to lose it. I call Vera and she said they should be platinum. She will check and get back to me on Monday. Sorry to vent, but I really am quite upset.

So they are white gold, and I will be sending them back. I am so frustrated that I have to send them back a second time.
