Just curious to see what people have to say. I'm thinking about one or the other. Please also post why you think one is better than the other.

My jeweler talked me out of bar set. She said they only look good leaving the store because the bars get pretty banged up and nasty looking quickly.

i voted prong b/c there''s less metal.

Bump for more replies.

prong for sure!

Do you mean better looking or better as in holds up better?

I love both. You almost always see prong settings now but I still love a bar setting myself.

I guess I mean better as in overall better. More comfy, more sparkle, more durable, etc? I noticed Fuffi said the bars can get banged up and nasty looking. Thanks for that heads up.

Does anyone have both settings and prefer one over the other?

More votes please!

is it to match something- say your e-ring? if so what does the e-ring look like?

By "bar set", do you mean channel set or is it different? (Perhaps a pic of each would help?)

I like the look of prong-set eternity bands. The tiny prongs showcase the diamonds openly and they sparkle like crazy!

I voted for prong set. I just think it''ll sparkle more--less metal.

I love my prong set eternity band. As a matter of fact I had a half eternity band that was bar set before and I returned it. It just didn''t do it for me.

Hi,
I''ve got a gorgeous 1.58ct (5 stone) shared prong platinum ring. The setting shows almost all of the diamonds and is solid and feels ''safe'',( It was handmade for me though- not a pre made setting). I wear it virtually every day. I too considered a bar setting but as I wanted pure diamonds- like a river of diamonds- I chose the shared prong setting.

I think its Fabulous. Its great to be able to see minimal setting, and major stones. I must admit it does get admiring glances!

As a wedding band I think it would look gorgeous, but...half of the stones won''t be seen a lot of the time, and as a WB personally I''d worry about slamming it down on something, or doing house/garden maintainence in it. I suppose it depends on your lifestyle.

Hope this has been some help.
