Hi Everyone!

Maybe I''m just overly paranoid, but I''m questioning the security of my prongs on my .93 carat e-ring. It''s set in a platinum 4-prong head and when I look at it from above the tips of the prongs are what I can only describe as "small beads" and are very delicate looking (which I actually like). So, essentially they don''t really curve that far onto the crown. When I look at my girlfriend''s white gold ring, her prong tips are much more thicker and further up on the crown of her e-ring than mine. While I made a point of getting my ring set in platinum for security, I am wondering if I should still worry about the delicate nature of the prong tips, or not since it is in platinum? Does platinum allow for more delicate settings while being very secure? please note nothing has happened to my rock in this setting to cause me to be as paranoid as I am (i.e. it''s not loose or anything). Is there specific features to look at to ensure a diamond is set properly in the prongs?

Cheers!

My ering is exactly the same. I have a loop, and from time to time, I do inspect the prongs, to make sure they are still secure.

However, it might be a good idea to have your setting inspected by a jeweller on a regular basis, just for piece of mind.

I would agree with Basil Brush (oops I mean blodthecat).

Brown Sugar,

Why not take your ring to a qualified diamond setter/ jeweler and have them check your prongs? Also, check to make sure that the diamond is set properly and the casting is solidly constructed. You''ll have peace of mind. But it''s a great idea to have your prongs checked at least twice a year.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I deligently check my prongs every night already and will certainly get it professionally inspected yearly.
