Hi,
I must have a thing for prongs

hehe. Is it safe to have ''lifted'' prongs like this? I''m quite certain I''ve asked this before, but it seems like every time I get a new setting the prongs are already lifted a little. Am I just being picky?

Oh and that is a thin piece of metal protruding from the prong, I''m pretty sure that''s not normal but my concern is about the safety of the stone. Thanks!

It looks like the seat is secure so there is no immediate danger the threat is something getting caught under it and lifting the prong.

Thanks strm, I think I best stick with bezel settings as this really annoys me!

If you are being picky, so am I. I hate them like that - they get fuzz under them all the time which drives me crazy.

Bad prong work drives me NUTS and is completely unacceptable! It is pervasive and often, when I point it out I am looked at as though I have two heads!

I make them fix it anyway.

Here is a series of articles you might find interesting - they have some educational diagrams:

Thanks for sympathizing, Marcy! I''m glad to hear I''m not the only one...

Diamante, thank you for the articles I will read them right away!

I just checked out the first and it is fascinating! How did you find these?
