Is this something that is commonly over looked? I bought the diamond online ad had it set locally. They put the prong on the inscription facet so all I could see was a "G" in GIA. I am pretty sure its mine because of the distinct florescence and it had a natural on the facet to the left of the inscription. I told them I will like it reset and the agreed to do it for free, but it will take a few days. Is this really an issue? Could it be an issue in the future?
Thanks,
Roy

Well typically I think diamonds are set so that any visible or otherwise inclusions or feathers are hidden by the prongs, and also the diamond is set so that the table is symmetrical within the prongs. I don''t think it was an oversight when your diamond was set, but you never know. I can''t think of how it would be a problem in the future, diamonds are normally appraised before being set, and if you had to get it appraised again it would need to be taken out of the setting anyway, but if you''re not happy with the way it is set in the prongs right now then by all means, have it re-set.

It sounds good that they've agreed to do this cooperatively. It happened to me too, despite a consultation on this before setting, and a lack of cooperation after the fact (though my setter was not local). Consistent with monarch's note above, just discuss any possible concerns with the setter, but it was probably an oversight, and worth the couple of days it would be out of your view to have it done...
