Hi all! Over the weekend I had my ring cleaned at my jeweller. I was amazed.. It looked brand new. I usually clean it at home with soapy warm water but it never looks brand new. How often do you get it pro cleaned? If I purchased my own ultra sonic machine would the results be the same as the store?

I think it really depends on the setting. Channel-set, or settings that have a lot of room to hide dirt.. I imagine they really benefit from the professional cleaning. I have a simple, open setting, and my US doesn''t do anything a baby toothbrush and some dawn in hot water can''t do - it just saves me the time and effort of actually doing it!

The results might be much better, especially if you did not use soapy water, but without a buffing machine or other way to remove the small scratches and bring the ring back to a high polish, it will never look quite as well as it will with a professional cleaning.

Soapy water also leaves a film on your diamond, as do ammonia based products that help to trap more dirt quickly right after the cleaning is done. That is why I recommend the GemCare Products that use a vegetable based cleaner that does not leave a film.

The ultrasonic really helps get the "cookie dough" off the back of your diamond, which allows it to sparkle, so it will look better than just using soapy water.

Is there any place that you can buy a reasonably priced buffing machine? If not a machine, is there an easy way to buff them? My wedding band and new e-ring will have very plain 18k YG bands. It would be nice to have a way to buff them myself. Thanks.
