I bought a beautiful 1ct stone from Martin at USA Certed Diamonds, and am now looking to have it set. I am looking for a simple, solitaire, tiffany style setting. I''ve been to five different jewelers in my area (Cleveland, OH) and no one has anything like this!! *IF* they have platinum settings (two stores had none), the ones they do have are custom from their own designers. Only two stores showed me a catalog and were willing to order something, but in each instance a platinum setting added $700-$800 more to the cost versus the same white gold setting. Also, all the platinum settings I was shown looked really dull and grey. I really liked a $210 WG setting (which seems exceptionally cheap, worrysome even) and the same in platinum was about $1000.

I don''t like the fact that white gold yellows over time, but the settings I saw in WG where much shinier than the same setting in platinum. Also, no one had any idea about any S1 mix. How do I find good platinum in a B&M?

Thanks!

Hi Djc6,

I recommend you check out this setting: Union Diamond 6-Prong Tiffany Knife Edge.

It is very affordable, as you can see, it is $350. I inquired about it, it is 950 platinum and the vendor has had good feedback on it. I then ordered one for myself and I can say, it appears well made and very shiny, not dull whatsoever. Also quite solid, with that weighty feel of platinum, which is what I wanted. It looks very close to the Tiffany classic setting with those lovely "scalloped" looking prongs set into the band, and a decent knife edge. I am quite pleased with it!

I think this vendor also sells a variety of other wg and plat settings you should check those out too.

Thanks for the tip!! I remember seeing one of these Solstice settings in a store (in white gold) and liking it - good to know the same is available in Platinum (according to stuller.com). For anyone else, here are a couple pages on the setting from GOG''s website:
