I recently purchased an e-ring with pave running down the band. My fiance has been wearing the ring for only 3 days now and one of the pave stones has fallen out and is lost. What is my best approach with the jeweler? Is it likely that I will be expected to buy a replacement stone or will they probably just replace it? How much does one of those tiny stones cost? Is this going to happen a lot? Should I change settings?

Sorry for all the questions but I am really concerned about this. My fiance LOVES the setting and I really don''t want to have to go with something different.

im sooo sorry ur going through this i had the same thing happen with my ring the tiny pave stones kept popping out my jewler fixed it twice then she said if it happen again we would talk about a new setting sure enough it happen again so i went to pick a new setting. things turned ugly she got nasty and demanded more money finally with a fight she switched my setting to something else i didnt love.

i wound up going to my aunts jewler and finding a setting i love even better than my pave!! he was kind enough to do an even exchange. some poeple dont have problems with pave i did so im staying away from it now!!

u can probably click my name and read my past posts about it!

good luck

ps my ring was only 2 months when the stones started to pop out!

it depends on your jeweler. most will just replace a lost stone for free. if not, they are not very expensive $20 or so. if it becomes a constant problem it may be a workmanship issue with the setting..

Since it has already had a stone come loose this quickly, should I just begin to prepare her for a setting change? I wish the jeweler had told me ahead of time that this might be an issue. She is an artist and therefore does not need something so delicate that she is afraid to work with her hands.

is she working with clay or something? it could be just that one stone was not set properly or she may have unknowing banged it loosening a bead. pave is delicate and isn''t really made for 24/7 wear. if she want''s something more durable to wear 24/7 doing anything then yes, i''d look into changing the setting.

She actually works with lots of media but is in interior design as a career so she is often moving furniture etc... That said, she hasn't been doing anything since receiving the ring that should have dislodged a stone. We were on a plane most of the day after she received the ring (I asked her in Napa, CA and we live in AL) and she just been hanging around the house since then.

It sounds like maybe the diamonds were not set in the ring properly. If you look with a magnifying lens, you should be able to see the metal holding the diamonds in place. If they are not then there maybe more diamonds coming out by time...I would have a jeweler check it to make sure.

Not all pave settings have problems. I think it''s a matter of workmanship with the setting in particular. I have been wearing mine pretty much 24/7 for almost 5 months now and I have had no problems with any of the stones falling out. If one were to fall out my jeweler would replace it for free. He has that policy on all of his jewelry. I would check with your jeweler to see what his policy is on lost stones. For a stone to fall out after only 3 days leads me to believe that it wasn''t set properly to begin with.

I would go to the jeweler and have him replace the stone. If another stone comes up within a relatively recent period of time (i.e. less than 2 weeks or something) then go back and ask to have the setting re-made. However, it is relatively common to lose stones with pave. With my previous ring I lost a stone about once every 9 months.

Your fiance should skip the ring on days when she is moving furniture, lifting weights, gardening, cleaning house, etc. Pave rings aren''t made to withstand these kinds of activities.
