Problem with James Allen - please lend some advice

Hello.

After months of research and looking, I finally made my purchase through James Allen. I decided to take the Bank Wire option because it can't hurt to save a few extra bucks.

My bank is giving me trouble with the wire transfer. They are concerned with two things;

1. When I give them the routing number for the JA bank account, there system automatically provides the address of "New York, NY" but I was provided a full address for Delaware.

2. The beneficiary name I was give is "JamesAllen.com" but my bank is claiming they have never seen the name be a company like that and are saying it is invalid.

They are basically telling me that I should do more research and that JA could be a scam. I talked to the JA customer service on the phone but the individual didn't quite seem to understand my problem.

Has anyone had any issues related to this? I found exactly what I wanted on their website but I am now debating canceling and just continuing to search locally. Confused. Upset.

:/

I know people have paid by wire and also had their money refunded after returning a diamond.

Sounds like you need a new bank. I had no trouble making a wire transfer. Can't the bank override the NY to Delaware? And just because the teller never heard of a .com address doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

This is the bank's issue.

Has nothing to do with JA.

Speak to a manager who is familiar with e-transfers/wires. If that doesn't work and you have money at multiple banks, I would suggest trying an alternate.

8 think it sounds more like a problem with your bank than with JA. I would do two things. First, ask to speak with a manager at the bank to see if s/he can help clarify the issue and second, do the same at JA, a manager may have encountered this problem before and be able to offer a resolution. I too have wired money to JA before with no issues and recently to whiteflash who uses a bank in a seperate state from their location and my bank had absolutely no issue and the wire went through in minutes. I really think your issue is with the person you spoke with at the bank. Good luck!

They were very condescending to me especially since I have never dealt with JA before. Almost like I was an idiot and just picked a random company to wire money to. Perhaps I can just try a different branch and insist they use the EXACT information on my JA print out?

Yeah quite frankly I'd report your post and ask the mod to change the title to reflect that it is a problem with YOUR BANK wiring money to JA, not with James Allen.

No advice other than that I know plenty of people successfully wire money to JA.

I have asked for a topic change. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I will call JA and talk to a manager. I will get them to confirm the wire information and then insist my bank use that exact information.

To be a bit of devils advocate, this is the Bank. One of the most risk adverse organizations. And you are asking to do a wire transfer, which is one of the more risky transactions (if you dont know who you are dealing with). And they clearly don't know who you are dealing with. So if you had a problem you might come back to them to get it righted. And they don't want that. People do get scammed every day, especially on the internet (I'll never understand how people still pay for things through western union). So they did their due diligence and warned you against it. If it was someone else on this board they wouldve said "I've done business with they before, just put it through". But you hesitated and weren't sure. I'd say they did the right thing.

All that being said, many people here have bought from them with no problems. So you don't need to worry about if it is a scam or not. Because I suspect if you were worried about the info being wrong you wouldve contacted JA to find out. Just insist that you know its right and you want to do it. If they still wont do it, find a different branch, and then file a complain.

Your bank may just be doing due diligence, which I appreciate.
When wiring money every name, address, account and routing number must be perfect.
If the company's name does not end in '.com' then that must not be on the wire form.

JA is very legit and reputable; I know because I've bought from them.
Just contact JA and get the correct info, talk to a supervisor if necessary.

I recommended to verify the JA info with JA that it is correct them go to the main branch for your area and ask for the wire department/person.
This has worked well for me in the past with different bank problems.

This seems a good solution, and dont be too upset by the bank, they are trying to protect you. They just don't know you don't NEED protection ::)

Had a fresh email sent from someone in JA customer service that has all of the information listed. I am taking it to the bank after work and telling them to follow it as if it is gospel. I will keep you all updated.

Update: Went to a different branch and sat down with a manager. I had them use the exact info that the online chat (and follow up call- exceptional service) provided to me. Within a few hours JA had received the wire and put my ring into production. So far I am pleased with their service. I will let you all know about the ring when it comes in!

Thanks a million for your guidance.
